Just beat Sonic Frontiers...and here are my thoughts....

Sonic Frontiers will be a mix bag for a lot of people. But as a Sonic games fan, Sonic Team has fixed A LOT of issues that I feel like have plagued the series since the introduction of the Hedgehog system with the boost mechanic.

In Frontiers, the Boost Mechanic is perfected. It can get any better here, it's so fun to run around the Open Zones as Sonic and finding things to traverse. But moreso, the overall controls have been improved a great deal. Sonic no longer feels like a heavy vehicle. He's more limber and I feel like I have a lot more control over him than in previous titles. Controlling Sonic is so improved, that this is how I expect Sonic to be tuned for every game in the future. Sonic Team has done what I have requested them to do for a long time now.

The story is pretty interesting. If you're into Sonic lore, you will love the little (and sometimes very big references) to older titles. Really glad they went back to a story element that I've been wanting them to go back to for a while.

With all that said, this game is STUPIDLY easy. Like Hard Mode won't even give you a challenge and the final boss is a joke. The real gem are the Cyber Space levels. I won't say anything about them, because that would ruin the surprise of how they're like. But, I enjoyed them IMMENSELY. The Open Zone level concept is cool too. A lot of the designs are cool, but they become repetitive when traversing the zones. A lot of them also felt very similar or just outright the same, especially later.

All in all, I enjoyed it. It's the best 3D Sonic since, at the earliest Sonic Unleashed, at the latest Sonic Adventure 2. It has it's issues, but man did I have fun with it.

8/10.

What are your thoughts on the game if you played it?

Felt like if it had a competent team and the right budget it could've been something. Felt too amateurish for me to make it past the two hour mark. I do like how they handled transversal though.

I loved the difficult, is really well balanced.
Is not trivial and there’s some platform (the 5 towers) that ask some attention. The boss with the giant shield is awesome and not so easy to understand

Remember, Sonic is also for youngster.

I did a review, for me is a 8/10 too

If you still have the game my suggestion is to beat at least the first boss. Don’t open the map, just run and look at the compass

Refunded. But that's pretty much what I did. With Tactics Ogre coming out tomorrow, I've decided to just wait and devote my time to that.

This is the first Sonic game I've bought since Sonic Heroes and I've gotta say.... I love it. Traversal is a lot of fun, you do feel fast when you upgrade Sonic's speed and the story is interesting enough to keep me going. The dialogue is poorly written but it's stupid enough to give you a chuckle here and there.

It does need more variety in puzzles and I do wish the island locales we're similar to actual Sonic aesthetics. It'd be sick to have enemies and environments like Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone. If they do this in a sequel, I think a lot of people will be more interested.

Went on to play the game for a few hours and ended up putting in 4 hours and 100% the first island.

So much fun and enjoying just discovering traveral bits and hidden rails and bounce pads that lead me to different areas.

Excellent Sonic game and already worth the purchase so far

How is the music?
How many hours is the main story?
Music is absolutley banging, nice and chilled when in open world areas, when you face a titan or guardian the soundtrack proper gets you in the mood.

Really good so far, I understand there is jank all over the game but when you find those awesome rails that loop and intertwine or when you get the rails that act as "Traversal" through the map its awesome.

Does they fixed the camera issues? You know...something that plaged Sonic games since ever?

I want a Sonic game that brings the community together. It would be nice to play a Sonic game that is multiplayer co-op action adventure where you can play as different Sonic characters similar to Avengers or Gotham Knights, but without the shitty game design from those games. And traverse levels freeing prisoners, traversal platforms, etc.

I’m sick of Sonic games where you just play as Sonic. Opening up playable characters like Amy, Tails, Knuckles etc can invite unique gameplay styles and co-op strategies. Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric was suppose to be the beginning of this trend but regressed back to playing only Sonic. I want variety damnit.

I really can't wait to play this. If you look past the Metacritic average, there's a lot of praise going around for this game. Seems like it's widely considered to be the best 3D Sonic game in a decade, if not ever.

It's just held back by bugs, some graphical issues, and some weird design quirks. Might be a really good pickup for $30 6 months from now after it's been patched a bit.

A decade? That means it's better than Lost World and Forces. Not exactly a high bar. And I have a hard time believing that Sonic fans are going to vault this game over the Adventure games, Unleashed, and Generations when it's all said and done. Not widely, at least.

The physics feel terrible, jumping, homing attack and light dashing bring you to a screeching halt compared to running, it only feels right when you hit a ramp that sends you into the air, every jump at the right angle should work like that.

The roll should also speed you up more.

There's a lot of things to tweak in the options menu. I haven't tried it yet, but you might check it out.

Controls were already perfect in Lost World though.
I really enjoy Frontiers (so far), but I would love another Lost World style game IF it had Mario Galaxy quality levels. I also thought the controls were just fine. Being an old Gen-Xer, the Genesis Sonics are by far my favorite, and I thought Lost World did a great job bringing that style into 3D (by copying SMG, yes, but if you are gonna steal, steal from the best). They really dropped the ball on the level design though, after the first few. It would be cool if Frontiers DLC (or the sequel) had some Lost World style cyberspace levels (in addition to new boost ones also). I doubt that will happen, since Lost World was a huge flop.
