Just came back from the hospital... how common is this heart problem?

My brother is staying overnight after suffering from something called Supraventricular Tachycardia, but the hell if I know what it is.

Basically, this kid that weighs no more than a buck-'o-five and is at 5'7", had a heart rate of 190 and was complaining of chest pains. He's sixteen too.

A group of doctors, four in total, had to give him this injection on both sides of some kind of amino acid to lower his heart rate. They did it twice because it failed the first time, but it brought down his heart rate from 185 to 79 in a snap of a second. It was wild.

They called in a cardiologist(sp?), whom said Supraventricular Tachycardia is actually common, but I've never heard of it before. I didn't know if it was actually common or he was just saying that to break some of the tension caused by this episode.

I'm sure one of you know what the deal is.

A 'Supraventricular' tachycardia is kinda broad. Basically, something's wrong in the electrical conduction of the heart, and the heart is beating >100 bpm.

I wouldn't be worried.
