My GF bought me a DS and I'm all excited! I have no idea what I should be looking forward to tho since I haven't been following the DS much. So GAF, I have some questions for you. First off, recommend me a nice carrying case/screen protector/game holder. Second are the games. Here is what I have and what I know I want so far:

What I own:
Nanostray (awesome but very short shooter!!)
=_( I own nothing else at this time heh.

Looking forward too:
Mario Kart
Castlevania
Metroid Pinball
Metroid Hunters

So what else on the horizon is worth picking up? what's worth picking up now? Yoshi Touch and Go? Meteos? *shrug* help me out here!

Meteos, Wario Ware: Touched (if you have with these minigames), Nintendogs (if you like these cute puppies :D). Spiderman DS seems to be quite good (a few good opinions here @ GAF). Yeah and a ton more that will release till christmas :D

Mario 64.....

Took me a lil bit to get used to the control but after coming back to it on a plane trip to Europe I am in love with it..... Luigi, Wario and Yoshi add so much to the game plus the extra stars and levels make it a really new experience.......and the mini games are quality stuff man.... :D

Other than that:

Jump Superstars (import), Advance Wars: DS, Kirby DS, Wario Ware, Meteos, Yoshi Touch + GO.... and of course coming out this year:

Castlevania
Sonic Rush
Mario Kart Online

pda style software should be on the way in the not too distant future.

Until then...

Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Polarium
Meteos
Wario Touch

In that order

Super Mario 64
Kirby
Meteos
Ouendan
Jump Superstars
Advance Wars
Nintendogs

I really can't agree with you about Nanostray; I find it very very average. That's just me, though.

How ironic, I think for my birthday 2 days ago I broke my DSes top screen. The screen still displays just has a permanent film like when you press down on an LCD. Any suggestions?

Really? I love it. My only complaint is how short it is. Other then that its a fun arcade style shooter IMO.

So what do you guys recommend for a carrying case?

Yoshi Touch and Go is an incredibly addictive little game. You'll find theres not much in terms of goals, or kinds of game at first, but I was trying to beat my top scores for 2 months straight! :)

Pac 'N Roll is also a very nice game, Please support it! It's a very fun game while it lasts, plus the challenges are a real bitch!

OMG - how can there be this many posts and only one (slightly hidden) mention of Kirby?

1) Kirby
2) Meteos
3) Ouendan
4) Pac-Pix (if only to further prove (beyond Kirby) that the DS's touchscreen is no gimmick)

I tried it out - but I refuse to support anything with levels as GOD AWFULLY TERRIBLE as 5-3.
I'm not entirely sure... but that section with the trampolines and falling platforms *may be* the worst level design I've ever seen.

*editted for proper quote :-(

Well, in regards to a case, I have ALS Industries "ND17" case and I love it. It fits all my games and styli. I've always been an ALS whore; My GBA SP is in a case by them as well.

Games? Well, there's Nintendogs, Meteos, Polarium, Castlevania (which is out tomorrow), and Mario 64 DS to name a few. The system has really been coming into its own as of late.

Having trouble finding a pic for that one.. Have a link by any chance?

I got one for my birthday last week, but it had a stuck pixel on the bottom screen. So back to the shop it went.

Now I have Advance Wars, Castlevania & Meteos. The first two are great, but I'm not really getting Meteos. What's the point of any strategy when scribbling on the screen works just as well for clearing a level?

Ouendan, Advance Wars, Castlevania, Jump! Superstars, Meteos. If you can find a bargain, try Yoshi Touch and Go, Zoo Keeper, Nintendogs and Kirby.

If you don't feel like importing,
Out now:
1.) Advance Wars: Dual Strike
2.) Lost in Blue
3.) Meteos
4.) Kirby Canvas Curse
5.) Mario 64 DS (it's dirt cheap/free now)

Upcoming this year:
-Castlevania
-Trauma Center: Under the Knife
-Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
-Mario Kart DS
- Mario and Luigi RPG 2
- Animal Crossing DS

This is my case. It not only holds the DS but also 8 DS games and 3 GBA games. Don't leave home without it. You can get it at wallymart.

NuShield has the best screen protectors for your touchscreen. I highly recommend them.

Games:

Advance Wars DS
Kirby Canvas Curse
Yoshi Touch and Go!
Warioware: Touched!
Meteos
Nintendogs

Just because you have a DS now doesn't mean you should go out and buy every single game on release, because chances are, and the probability is VERY high -- that they will suck.

You don't need a screen protector...why? Your stylus isn't a fucking screw. Just don't drag it against the screen like a 4 year old retarded gimp.

Grab the demi-owned titles

Meteos
Lunar
Polarium
Advance Wars
Castlevania (This week anyway)
Kirby
Mario
Zoo Keeper

That's all you need, nothing more. If you don't like the titles on those list *AFTER PLAYING*, feel free to sell/return them. There's plenty on GBA to occupy the other slot.

Yeah, not gonna really go wild. Just wanted to see what most people liked best. =P
I think I'll be getting Castlevania and Meteos this week. That should hold me over for a bit.

my top 4 in no particular order except number 1, which remains number 1 until I buy advance wars and pac n roll.

1. castlevania DS! man this game is sweeeeet. so so good.
2. mr driller ds (euro version)
3. Meteos (it's great. took me 24 hours to get 100 percent complete)
4. kirby (took the yoshi touch and go and made a real game of it)

Kirby is buh buh buh boring

AW is more of the same

Meteos reminds me of SSB, thus making it gut-wrenching to even listen or look at

Ouendan is still undecided, have to play it

Same DS case I bought. Fairly inexpensive, has quite abit of storage space (has my DS, four DS games, two GBA games, and the recharger shoved in it with room to spare), and was pretty cheap. Even got a blue-toned one to match my DS. :D

Kirby and AW really ain't that great. Meteos and Ouendan, however, more than live up to the hype.
Meh, your opinion. I wasn't into Meteos and I am fucking IN LOVE with Advance Wars DS. I even tolerate the shame of having a DS on my desk at work, just because of that game!

...Agreed on Kirby though. Stylus wank = no.

Definitely do not listen to anyone who say Kirby and AW aren't awesome. Kirby's one of (if not the, but that's a little arguable.. maybe) the best 2D platformers since Yoshi's Island. It has tons of replay value, even if most of it is just going through the game with multiple characters, but the stages are so much fun you'll want to go through multiple times. And getting the medals is rewarding as all hell.

Games worth owning for DS:

Kirby: Canvas Curse
Advance Wars
Meteos
Wario Ware Touched
Feel the Magic ($18 now)
Castlevania (this Wednesday)
Nintendogs
Bomberman
Super Mario 64
Zoo Keeper ($20 or less now)
Yoshi Touch n Go (fun, but it will probably drop to $20 soon, so wait)
Polarium (hell, you can probably find it for $13-$18 now)

And there are other games too like Lost in Blue, Trace Memory, Lunar. Not everyone will like those so buy at your own risk. :P

Happy birthday!

Today was my birthday. I'm 20.

20.

When the hell did that happen?

Anyway, uh... Advance Wars DS. Yeah. Have fun.

Advance Wars is the definite must-buy for the Nintendo DS. Everything else is well... just that. Something else.

Oh, indeed it's a bitch. However, 5-4 is the best level of the whole bunch IMO! It's a big, Monkey-ball esque slide! :D

Although it looks like they originally intended for 4 more sets of levels, since Pac_UFO is just 4 boss levels that could easily have been seperate.

Has anyone got Pac Moon 7-3 yet? What the hell is it?

And does ANYBODY own Dig Dug - Digging Strike?! Nobody seems interested enought to buy it and play it :|
