Everything will start hurting soon. I woke up and my hand hurt.

I also have a huge bruise on my side. I don't know how I got it.

Edit: I think I hurt my hand from building my daughter's new cabinet for her office. It got me out of the house. And maybe the bruise came from that build too.

But for reals, you'll find that as you get older, the simple tasks are harder on your body. Shit, I have a 3 year old and I make groans when getting up off the floor now, lol.

Oh, and don't have any new kids, if you plan to be an active father.

I'm turning 44 in a couple months and I have found that in the last year or so I really feel like I aged a lot. I saw some reports that say around age 44 is when people start to feel as though they have aged and that has definitely been my experience. I have definitely lost a step and need more time to just kind of get my bearings. It sounds much worse than it is, but it's noticeable even compared to a couple of years ago. For example, when my daughter wants me to play something very active after a long day at work and I'm just sitting on the couch or wherever it's a little bit harder to get up than it used to be. Again, not noticeable to probably anyone but myself, but it's there. I tire easier and find myself valuing sleep more.

I also echo what others have said about health. I basically don't drink alcohol anymore and don't want to. Try and work on my general nutrition regularly. I exercise regularly and find it to be helpful to both my physical and mental health.

I have also found that in the last few years I finally feel like an adult. Definitely up until age 35 or so I found that I still often felt like I was a young person pretending to be an adult. Now I feel like an adult who has zero interest in what young people are into. I know what I like and am content with it. I also do not care at all what other people think about me.

Get a good optometrist and/or ophthalmologist and visit regularly.

When I was a kid my mom warned me that my eyesight would start going to shit after I turned 40. I laughed thinking she was just complaining. She was absolutely right. I had more vision (refraction) changes from ages 40-46 than I did from ages 18-39. I just turned 49 this past January and from 46-49 it's stabilized again but those 6 years I had new prescriptions every year.

Edit: Gp1's post below reminded me...

If you're in the US, around 45 doctors are going to start harassing you to do the Cologuard home test. Go get a colonoscopy instead. I know that's a bigger hassle, but Cologuard has an insane amount of false positives (they claim 13%, but some studies show the false positive rate as high as 36%) and then all they do is tell you to go get a colonoscopy anyway.

Now seriously, I did a good body check up (PSA included), eat healthy, do your exercises and you are good for another 5 or 10 years.

Live damnit. Live like you've never lived before.
You're dying damnit. Just try to die a slow long death. I swear, I think it's when I hit 41 when my body felt like an old man's body. My mind still tries to think I can do a 6 foot fall without an issue. But I also know if I try, I'll probably break some shit.

The real question is, do you recognize the songs in the supermarket from when you were younger?
If the answer is yes, it's time to write a will

I had my colonoscopy in my late 20s / early 30s, don't remember.

Not sure what's the big deal - the worst part was just drinking that liquid the whole day before.

45 here. It's totally fine. You will discover you can just power through stuff you used to not be able too. Hang overs suck but your old man strength will crush through it.

You are in your prime earning years. Enjoy the cash!

Get fit, you will thank yourself and so will your family.

Watch for health issues. Get ok with being the "old person" in the room. It's important.
