Justice League of America will not start shooting as originally planned.

There hadn’t been much of a slowdown as preparations were still underway over at Australia's Fox Studios as artists, set designers and other crew were busy prepping the film before the Holiday break but why hasn’t the cast been officially announced?

“Justice League is indeed in danger of not starting production on time and maybe even getting scrapped altogether” is what a studio source told the IESB last week. "The concerns are that the script is not ready to go in front of cameras, and also that the budget is getting a bit out of control, the WGA strike has proven to be Kryptonite to Superman and friends."

So while the cast is apparently locked, the studio has had to go back to the actors and extend their holds. IESB was told that at least two high level studio execs headed to Australia right before Christmas to try to resolve these issues and get the film get back on schedule.

“George Miller really wants this movie to be way big but the cast is 100% unknowns,” our source continues.

Another problem we are hearing is that some upper level execs including the new big boss Jeff Robinov is not too sure if the timing is right for JLA. Most of it has to do with the Nolan camp not being happy with the decision of moving forward with the JLA film considering the positive buzz surrounding The Dark Knight.

So what is going to happen? “The cast for Justice League is mediocre, the execs know it's mediocre, it's going to go down to wire on this one, this movie cold be huge but right now it's plagued with a couple of big issues and the WGA strike isn’t making things easier,” our source tell us.

So what's the final verdict on Justice League? I was having dinner this evening when I got a call from one of our moles over at Warner Bros. who told us, "Justice League has been pushed back to at least April or May and possibly a start date as late as June or July…that is of course if the movie doesn't get scrapped altogether."

That's actually good news.... Potentially.

Ditch the Batman dude, you really don't need him.

Give Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash and J'onnz origin movies so the movie going audience can get an idea of who they are.

This way Justice Leage could be done with these people better suited for their role. And a lot less focus on the origins of 7 different characters or however many members there are.

And by then they could mooch off of Final Crisis.

They should make Superman Doomsday instead.

It would be a superman movie with the justice league in it.

They've done an animated version.

And really... well I don't know I don't care much for the Doomsday story.

Did anyone else... er think that this was somehow related to the New Frontier DVD when they read the thread title? :lol

I was like Oh Shit... then saw it was live action

Well i didn't saw the animated version.

I remember when i was into comics there was this release that was about Superman dying, and then came the whole clone thing.

Now i'm just saying that that Superman doomsday comic would make a pretty balla movie, and it's allways a chance to bring superboy into the scene.

But i'm not up to date with the lore, hell i remember when i was into batman, and it was the whole Bane saga, which was to me the most badass saga in batman history, then just the other day i wikkiied batman and bane out of curiosity, and apparently they ended up teaming up in a couple of issues.

I was fucking shocked. The comic book world has gone far, but it's funny, when i see these movies, it doesn't feel like it.

Ah, the good ole days. I was O_O through the whole saga.

On topic, the movie is doomed to fail anyway, might as well kill it now.

If Medellin has taught us anything, it's that you can't fuck with big projects like this. You have to make sure everything is right, or you risk getting booed at Cannes.

I thought that was just a Entourage thing. There's really a movie?

good. i just cannot imagine a live action JLA coming off well.

although, they should make the stand-alone Wonder Woman movie with that hot model they got for JLA. also, get on that Superman Returns sequel.

This is for the best I say. Save the travesty from even happening. Hell if they want do JL fund some Timm toons.

a wonder woman movie could be awesome.

but would inevitably get fucked up with marketing and the need for a message

the message should be "mess with diana prince or her people and she will kick your teeth in" not "girls win through cooperation and using the power of friendship!"

Hell if they want do JL fund some Timm toons.

after countdown...

Gaf thinks this is good news???

Good for you, Gaf!!!!

There is sensibility among internet-dwellers after all!

This movie would have been a massive cluster-fuck.

Once again, I'm the lone voice that would love to have seen what George Miller could do with his vision of the JLA.

Though Nolan's 'Batman camp' weren't happy with the idea of another, essentially competing Batman from the studio, apparently they were calmed down when they heard that Miller would be taking the film in a very different direction. Basically using a combination of CGI, Mo-cap and Live action to create a 'living comic'. A LOTR sized epic that no one has seen before. And the fact that apparently Batman never takes of his mask during the entire film.

I believe in Miller's vision. But, in saying that, I'm not all together sure about his casting choices. Especially if they have that kid from Knocked Up playing the bad guy. Giant robots fighting the JLA or no, a twenty five year old kid in a beard as the bad guy is still a twenty five year old kid as the bad guy. Pfft.

But like I said at the beginning. This is either going to be a massive hit and a stroke of genius or it's going to be a total disaster that's going to put all the DC comic franchises (including Nolan's Batman) back ten years.

Plus, though IESB does have some solid scoops, I don't believe that Jeff Robinov thing at all. It's weird, when compared to GAF and the seemingly endless parade of fake insiders (TRICO says hello?) alot of these other film sites like IESB take all these fake wannabes at face vaule. IESB have been stung in the past. Badly.

We shall see.

Why the fuck don't they sign these fucking WGA already? I don't care for JL, but that's another thing that's canceled because of those fucking big shots in Hollywood that are just so proud and deaf.

This news pleases me. If they want to make a JLA movie so bad, why don't they just do it in CG? It won't mess with Nolan's Batman and it will reach a high demographic. It just seems smarter to do that. Of course, I'm not a big shot producer so what do I know about movies right?

Wonder Woman does. Greek Myth on Paradise island would be epic.

Epic as in Xena afternoon show. Let's see if they can pull Thor, i don't even know how that's possible either.

Why? Miller made Happy feet dude. Last time a guy went from 3d anim to real, it was the shrek guy and he made the piece of shit narnia.

Miller is even worse because Happy feet was shit.

It's on the level of sick internet geek Chuck Norris love but in this case, he's Batman so it's ok.

Yes that's exactly what i meant.

Perhaps not, but that's how it read. George Miller has always been something of visionary. Some of the stuff in Babe (and even it's inferior, but interesting) sequel show that if nothing else, Miller can express his vision to the screen.

Mix that with the sublime action set pieces that we see in the Mad Max films and the fact he's right on the cutting egde of technology (Babe at the time and Happy Feet) sugges to me that Miller can infact give us something really interesting.

Miller may not have the instant fan-gasm factor that someone like Jim Cameron, Peter Jackson or even Zack Snyder has, but he is still a quality director with a varied and rich filmography.

Miller is someone I would say has earned a 'wait and see' approach for his work.

Happy feet was not cutting edge in anyway shape or form. But ok, why not, it's not like there's someone who was born to make a JLA movie anyway.

So the guy makes Happy Feet, which was still a great family movie, and now we don't want to see anything else ever done by him? Directors have their good moments and they have their bad moments. Imagine if someone said they never wanted to see anything by Steven Spielberg again after 1941. We'd be missing some damn good classics. I'm willing to give George Miller a chance here.

I would be happy supporting a movie sequel to Smallville, with Clark grown up and working at the Daily Planet with Lois. A threat appears and the Justice League from the TV show gets called in (i.e. no Batman).

Such a project would have an established fan base, while a bigger budget would draw in the casual crowd. Even on a tight budget of say fifty to seventy million dollars (as opposed to the $300 million spent on Superman Returns - not counting the $100 million spent on ten years of "development"), established and frugal working routines from the TV show would ensure something impressive.

Seems like tomorrow will be the day that Justice League movie is either given the green light or won't be heard of again until after the Writer's Strike.

Holy work-stoppage, Batman! The ongoing WGA strike now has Warner Bros.' superhero bonanza Justice League of America in its crosshairs. A source tells Hollywood Insider that filmmakers would like another script rewrite and are now debating whether to begin shooting without one. The studio has a Jan. 15 deadline to either greenlight League for a spring production start -- meaning a summer '09 release -- or push it into the post-strike ether. (Warner Bros. had no comment.) All seven superheroes have been cast -- among them, Adam Brody, according to one report -- but it remains to be seen whether they'll get to fly this year.

Why must you hate Mr. Bale so much?

I like Bale.
And I agree with people's position on the issue really.

On the same hand, we got away with Brandon Routh/Tom Welling as two different Superman in two different universes so I guess it could work.

But guess small screen/big screen is different than big screen/big screen.

I do want to see a Justice LEague movie though. :(

but the gay-for-bale people really annoy me as well

I dunno.

I was thinking about it, if this really had to happen. Ugh.

Perhaps instead of potential failure movies they could just do TV shows. We had a Wonder Woman show when I was growing up, just do a new one.

Then when it's time to do the movie get Tom Welling and the other TV actors together. :\

I dunno.

Or just perfect a watercolor painting effect to make a CG adaptation of Kingdom Come that looks like Alex Ross's paintings come to life. That's about as good as JLA would get.

Just got a call from our trusted source in Australia involved with the pre-production of Justice League with an update on its status.

Word came down today that the film is officially on hold. This will be until, at the very least, after the Writers strike has been resolved. Right now it's looking like at least until June.

But for now, WB's Justice League live action movie is on hold!
