Kameo is highly underrated.

It's not underrated.

Graphics are beautiful, controls are terrible. Story is laughable, battle sequences are awesome. Powers are neat, camera is lacking.

7.6-7.8 is about right.

And I've played most of it. Just got the last elemental warrior.

I've only played the demo, which I thought was enjoyable, and damn the graphics made me want a Banjo-Threeie so bad!

I'll be picking the game up soonish I think.

I don't really understand why you don't like the controls. For some elemental warriors, they are clunky, but I think it's because of the type of warrior. For example, Chilla lumbers and it makes him difficult to turn. Kameo controls tightly though.

Story is laughable? Clichéd, yes, but laughable? It's pretty much typical fantasy stuff with a nice twist at the end. Did you think Cinderella was laughable?

People complain about DeeBlue's controls, But I really dont get it. Press the button and he goes forward and then move around.

Yes, the controls are poor. Even unresponsive at times.

And the story is just not interesting. I'm always sitting there waiting for these sequences to end.

But then again, your experience may differ.

But if you can't understand what's wrong with Kameo's controls, I encourage you to try more games with good controls. That's all I can say, really.

Because the controls are fighting with the camera, and in the Coralis battle, that makes the whole thing a painful chore.

Does it control anything like Conker Speevy?

tip of the day: when using deepblue only use the left analog stick, forget about the right stick (camera).

As I approach the end of this game, I lean more and more towards the "hate" side. Constantly fighting with the controls negates any pretty graphical effects or insane amount of trolls onscreen.

except for deepblue i think the controls are really good. just hitting start and re-selecting my powers all the time makes it a little clunky. but other than that i think the controls are really good.

Just a FYI since I didn't realize this until about 4 hours in but you can pick your powers without going into the whatnot book. Just hold down either B,X, or Y and a radial pops up like in Ratchet and Clank. Much quicker on-the-fly changing.

Why is the first level the first level? It should be like level five or something. I think more people would enjoy the game if the demo and first level were somewhere less oppressive.

I would also like to find the person who thought it would be cute to show the same "death" cutscene over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, duct tape that person to a chair, and make them watch it on a continuous loop for a month straight.

You know, I can understand why some gamers will find it appealing, but it's been a long time since I sincerely despised a game as much as this. What makes me hate it more is that I really, really wanted to like it, and have made every attempt to do so. I'm now forcing myself to finish playing it through as punishment for buying it.

They're doing the typical EA / Metroid Prime thing...where you give the player everything in the first level to give them a real feel for the game, then take it away from them.

For example, in NFS Underground, you get to see how fast you can go, what cool cars there are, and nitrous....then take it away and give you a shitty Peugeot.

I think it's a good idea to show players in the first level how much promise a game will have, so they'll keep playing to get back to that point, rather than making them play for 3 hours with no idea of what's coming up, where by this point they might've got bored and stopped.

Agree, it's like those streaming video CD-ROM games from the early 90's all over again....Oooh look we can play video, it's sooo cool no one will ever get bored of it!?!?!
Will people ever learn?

Wait... You can die in Kameo? :lol

What does this so-called "death" scene look like? I've been through the game and never saw it.

<cheesy British guy voiceover>Honestly, the "death" sequence makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. </cheesy British guy voiceover>

Has anyone unlocked the 'Hard Trolls' code on this game and can comment on it? Hopefully the game will provide some replay value on a harder difficulty level...

Just finished the dreaded water level...it wasn't that bad. Having a great time with the game so far, haters go away. Major Ruin is the shit!

I was really annoying the levels based mostly around combat, pulling off some cool combo's with multiple characters.

But since the water temple the last couple of levels have declined into N64 rare-style annoying platformy sections, which feel hugely dated, so ,my love for this game is diminishing fast. At times I feel like I'm playing Banjo Tooie all over again!!

Im only 2 and a half hours in but so far your right. If this game were on xbox it would be scoring 9s and 10s eaisly. Ya, it doesnt really have a nextgen feel to it but that doesnt make it a bad game. It should be in the running for game of the year if the rest of it is anything like the first couple hours. Im not really a fan of Rare either. In fact, this is the best Rare game ive ever played.

The most frustrating bits in this game were grappling with the controls. God damn. Trying to get Kameo to turn around while in hover mode and having her constantly fall off ledges, trying to navigate 40 Below on the ice slides where you have to simultaneously manipulate the camera/his movement (ARGH!!!!) and Deep Blue's complete unintuitiveness. The inability to use the second analog stick as aiming makes it ridiculous; you people may have come to grips with it by adaptation, but that doesn't make it fun.

I'd like to join this bandwagon!

I'm really enjoying the game, far more then I anticipated.

Ways to make people hate this game:

-Release demo that sucks in comparision to real game
-Put said demo in kiosks next to games like Call of Duty 2

Bingo, game gets bad perception

Yeah, thats what keeps it from being a AAA game, especially the bolded part.

Looking at the 80% on gameranking, i'd actually call it spot on, if a little bit under. (I'd personally rate it 8.5)

I'd say it's at least as good as Beyond Good & Evil, but not quit in Zelda territory (but what is!?)

This game has to be seen in HD to be fully appreciated. SD users, go out and buy a VGA cable now!

Kameo is highly underrated

Starfox adventures is too.

Just wait for the other Action/adventure games on 360 or other consoles(zelda tp), they blow Kameo out of the water. Ill give it an 7,8 just like most reviews.

I havent come to any of those parts yet so maybe my opinion will change but so far im having more fun with it than I ever did with Zelda WW.

The graphics in this game are, at times, jaw-dropping. The water, in particular, is utterly beautiful.

Thats about right. I'd give it a high 8 as well. No way the game deserves anything below an 8 IMO (lol @ Eurogamer).

One part that bothered me -- especially when you're travelling on the Badlands -- is that the super high-res textures don't show up until you're right next to them. It's like that Dreamcast-era mip-mapping in games like Sonic Adventure, where it's blurry up ahead until you're right on top of the texture, and then suddenly it's super detailed. I'd imagine that's a launch thing, but it was a little disappointing.

I really enjoyed Kameo as well... despite the reviews. It was a little easy but the pace was outstanding, always something to do.

The battles in the badlands were a blast.

I definitely question the EGM/1Up reviews having completed the game.

I agree with most people in this thread. Kameo is highly enjoyable, there are some problems (Deep Blue underwater most notably, the water boss part especially) and you can tell that for most parts it's a Xbox game. But I enjoyed it a lot and I find it pretty discouraging so man reviewers went straight for the negatives. It's a solid 8/10, short and sweet.

Just finished this today, I would say it's an 8.5 game. I really enjoyed it, it's not perfect, but well worth a 10-12 hour playthrough. Personally I enjoyed it enough that I may spend some more time searching the map for more hidden areas and stuff. As far as the review scores go, I think rushing through to get up the review may have had an effect, becuase I think I would have enjoyed it far, far less just quickly moving from point to point.

One thing that hasn't been discussed much is the music, I thought it was great. Picked up at the right moment but wasn't too obtrusive. Especially thought it was really fit the mood at the end.

Just finished the water temple. Nowhere near as bad as people say. I actually felt it was more enjoyable than the previous level with the dragon heads. It took me all of 1 minuet to adjust ot the underwater controlls and the FPS style aiming when shooting the water cannon on land.

Edit: I would still rank it above a 9. Its like a zelda game with all the fat cut out and a great combat system.

9.5 here for me so far. I love the fantasy world they have created, it's so right for the characters and looks fantastic.

On a tangential note, I picked up my launch GameCube box the other day. On the back amongst all the screenshots was one of Kameo.

And while we all know Kameo was originally a GC game (and actually an N64 project prior to that), typically console boxes are reserved for games that are exclusive to that system and available now or will be available in no more than six months.

Here we are four years later, and a Kameo screenshot adornes the Xbox 360 boxes.

That's quite the tale: near-launch Nintendo critter-collecting title -> next-generation, Microsoft launch, elemental warrior adventure title.
