Well, I also think the original premise is inaccurate. I think Kanye aims for a more upscale urban and crossover audience. Almost like a hip Starbucks crowd imo or a P Diddy audience with more musical credibility. He's not exactly going for the exact consumer as whoever is the hardcore street rapper of the month so the street cred issue is slightly less relevant for him although it can't be completely discounted I suppose . For example saying the line about President Bush seemed like it was shocking for some people yet it was what I argue a majority of blacks feel anyway. He just said it out loud. (Once again, not that you can't either disagree or agree with the actual sentiment behind it) No hard scientific evidence on that one, just my what my life experience tells me being around different people.

His talking has nothing to do with how good or bad the music is and you should not judge it by that.

If you like sports, you know that a lot of athletes talk shit all the time, (i'm just saying this because it seems that your view of the music will be changed with how he talks). But they usually back it up; and in kanye's case, Kanye has as well.

His music doesn't mean that much to me. I see no reason to support his music if he's constantly saying annoying things. Especially since alot of those annoying things have to do with his music. So no, I don't want to spend my time listening to a douchebag, just because he puts out a couple of catchy hooks. If he doesn't want me to associate his music with his statements/persona, he should stop talking.

To each his own. I focus on music myself and leave the personality of somebody and judging of said personality to people I actually know and whether liking said person actually effects me in some manner.

Why do I have a funny feeling there is some ridiculous logic behind that statement? You're probably gonna say i'm racist or some shit. AMIRITE?

No it was just a dumbass thing to say. I have no idea if you're racist or not. Why, do you get that allot?

No, it just seems fitting that someone who seems as sensitive as you would think something like that. I have no idea what I could possibly have done to warrant you "hating" me, but it certainly says something about you that (a) you could feel that way about someone on a message board who you've never interacted with in your life, and (b) you actually are childish enough to say that to someone as if it's gonna ruin their life or something.

My Kanye comment was factually based. He grew up in a family with some money. He desperately wants to be accepted by the black community and hip hop world. He certainly seems to have tried his best to show his Tu-Pac side in 2005 and it has seemed to work a bit. His fan base seems to still be mostly white people though.

If it's any cosolation, I don't like you either.

Thanks. Have we ever met, or do you just go around internet message boards blindly proclaiming who you like and dislike too?

Yet you start a thread that says "Kanye West is a douchebag" when both points you make could be equally targeted at that. You can't have your cake and eat it too imo. Perhaps he feels the same way about your statements as you feel about Kanye's. After all extreme statements tend to elicit extreme statements in kind...

Kanye, shoots his mouth off nearly every day of the year in our media. I think we can all get a rather decent idea of what an egomaniac this dude is. For shits sake, he's got his ass on Rolling Stone as Jesus. Need I say more?

What kind of "extreme" statements have I made? As far as I know, i've never appeared in a Moutain Dew commerical before.

he is too full of himself and claims to be the greatest rapper on the planet.... the listeners decide who the best is. so he thinks he is so great, he is a douchbag

I like how stupid this sounds considering how many rappers call themselves the best rapper alive, #1 stunna, etc so on and so forth.

Being cocky is not new to hip hop.

No, but rarely have I seen someone who seems to literally believe every word he speaks about himself. This guy truly seems like he's the egomaniac to end all egomaniacs. Not to mention his schtick has worn thin very quickly. He definitely seems like a guy on a mission to gain street cred and thats always been the most pathetic thing a hip hop artist can do IMO.

Hmmm...You see to have a fixation on "street cred" but I don't think you actually know what that is... (Not an insult. Just saying you keep saying that and I don't really see your evidence other than stating he didn't grow up in South Central which you seem to think makes your point)

I love you dorks who get your panties in a twist over such a trivial thing that isn't even connected to his music (which is good). Oh, boo hoo, Kanye thinks he's the shit. You'd have to be a deranged and insecure person to be bothered by that.

Whatever. When Tu-Pac talked about the street and living life as a thug, I believed him. That dude was for realz. When I hear Kanye talking about being a hustler I find myself laughing for some reason.

Tupac was more "anti-white" than Kanye. More misogynistic. More homophobic. More self-destuctive. More violent. Always talked about "thug life". He did all of this while being a millionaire after a certain point.

So to you acting like a douchebag (your word) is no big deal but talking like a douchbag (again your word) is?

I won't argue that Kanye isn't Tupac but then I don't think most people view them remotely in the same way. I'm betting other than fans of urban music in general, the crossover audience between the two is fairly small.

I simply attached the word douchebag as a way of expressing my annoyance with his antics. He's just one of those people that comes off as a wannabe to me. I'm not excusing Tu-Pac's lifestyle at all. I'm just saying I don't like posers, thats all.

He's probably gay too.....

Ahhh....Either humour, (EDIT: or homophobia) or just ignorance. I can't tell....

I'm done with the thread either way. Just seem to be re-hashing the same points anyway.

So you're saying he's NOT gay? Being that i subscribe to the notion that he could possibly be gay, i find anyone's opposing opinion to be "ignorant" as well.

Take that!
