Looks like the first one, although I didn't expect much else either. I approve of the school environment though! :D
Wonder if they'll make any big changes to gameplay...apart from the online/multiplayer mode that's been talked about.

EDIT: :lol :lol That pic of the King is awesome

That sure looks like the inside of a classroom. Hell yeah! More of the same in rad new environments is just what I wanted. A little new music wouldn't hurt either.

And as for the 'hype train,' I understand 'hype' to mean exaggerated, overblown publicity for something that isn't at all deserving of it. Frankly, as one of the most vocal KD supporters, I don't really like being lumped in with that shit. The way I see it, I and the other KD early adopters were vindicated when the game hit the US and was finally played by most of the people who frequent the GAF. The ratio of positive to negative reactions was about 100 to 1. I can't remember another game in recent times that has fared so well around these parts.

Haters can fuck off.

This is exactly what I wanted from the first game. I mean the size progression was cool, but it was also kind of lame to be stuck in the same house for the first few levels. I always wondered why they didn't vary up the smaller environments, like with a classroom or an office building or maybe a retail shop, or something else like that. Looks like it will deliver! Also, some of the textures look a little nicer this time, it would seem. Still nothing complex, but a little more polished.

That's because the screenshots are postage stamp sized.

i was hoping they'd go with a subtly different visual style. not because there was anything wrong with the old one, just to keep it fresh. still, can't complain about more katamari -- it's one of the most purely enjoyable games i've played in years. and perhaps with katamari you'd rather hear music samples than see screenshots. can't wait.

Dude.
Are you okay?

I'M SO COOL I'M SO COOL YOU ARE SO SUCK

(This game is going to rule, even though I agree with drohne's comments about wishing for a somewhat new look.)

Ah yes. It looks like Katamai Damacy in new environments. What more could a man ask for?

Now buy this, everyone! Katamari must survive into the next generation!

i was wondering what had happened when "nov 04" had passed and no news...

looking forward to importing this one just like the first.

Port this to GameCube.. PLEASE!
In a perfect world, GC & Xbox would be getting Katamari Damacy DX next year, with 30 bonus exclusive levels and multiplayer games. Too bad it'll never happen.

I hate it when people say _______ game from Atari 2600 or such era game is soo awesome that it eclipses anything done today. Thats your opinion and it is valid, but to say that as a generalization is not right.

[...]

Franchises that need to end,

Tony Hawk, Mario, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, and Tomb Raider. They all used to rule but now they suck.

...

And you need to teach whoever posted that story to do their tags properly.

Hope this doesn't mean KD is going the way of Viewtiful Joe--awesome, innovative original, with an entirely safe, predictable sequel.

I'm okay, you're so-so.

up the hill backwards, it'll be alright....

Even if the new one is just more of the same, I'm down with that. Especially for 20 bucks.

Post mortem in the Dec 2004 Game Developer for those who are interested.

Would probably be interesting for all of you wannabe designers

First one came out on March 18th (my birthday! :D) so I expect the sequel will come out around the same time.

Can't wait. Even more of the same would be enough for me - remember people, new game = new music!

Although I expect the sequel will expand on the multiplayer side of things. Lots of potential for multiplayer Katamari'ing ...

It's a tough thing. Cause despite the fact that it's a critical success and is doing better than expected at retail, it's still a VERY NICHE title. The sales don't justify significantly increasing the budget to have an upgraded graphics engine, a full orchestral score, professional voice acting, etc. Now, clearly this title showed that a big budget isn't needed, but to have the kinds of improvements many are asking for just isn't likely.

Now, if you want it to be even more "original" or innovative and still stick to the constraints of a sequel and have it be released in less than a year, that's tough. It might as well be a new game.

Honestly, I don't really get the need for a sequel so soon. I've got and really enjoy the first game, but I'm definitely not salivating for more right now... so this just seems like overkill...

I feel the same way. Not quite hungry for more yet, though it's good to know the franchise is actually a series and not a one-off, I guess.

i'm ready for this one, or will be by the time it hits.

i wonder if "everybody loves katamari damacy" is indicative of more multiplayer focus. there are at least a few examples of multiplayer-focused games using "minna" (everyone) in the title. if that is, indeed, the title.

katamari really could've used great multiplayer because i've rarely seen a game that people were so eager to share with others before, frankly.

BUT I'M JUST WILDLY THEORIZING HERE
