Katamari Damacy: Rolling LIVE — Released on Apple Arcade

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.

In a delightful surprise, a brand new Katamari game released a few days ago. Unfortunately it's currently an Apple Arcade exclusive (though those games tend to release elsewhere over time), but if you've already got Apple Arcade, it's absolutely worth the download.

What can I say? It's classic Katamari. I've been using a PS5 controller, and it controls exactly how you'd want it to. There are even "simplified" controls for people who don't want to figure out the classic dual stick rolling.

The soundtrack is excellent, as you'd expect for a Katamari game. Lots of old motifs used throughout some of the tracks, as well as brand new J-pop style tunes that fit super well.

Surprisingly, this game is quite hard. I'm having trouble getting silver in most levels, let alone gold. And progress is tied to completing levels, similar to previous games, so it's more challenging than I expected. But it's still incredibly fun.

The whole "King of the Cosmos is now a streamer" thing is kinda dumb, but who's playing Katamari for the story anyway? The levels and layouts are as good as ever.

Highly recommend anyone with Apple Arcade to give this a shot, and obviously make sure you play it with a controller. And if you don't have Apple Arcade, I guess you could just sign up for a free trial or one month for like $5 or whatever. It's worth it to play a new Katamari, imo.

I hope this game comes to consoles and Steam eventually, cause it's quite good.

Apple Arcade is the best deal in gaming, the soul of true handheld games of the past.
I dunno if I'd go that far, but I have really been enjoying it lately. I've already put like 6 hours into Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic, which also just released. Not to mention Balatro, Retro Bowl, Stardew Valley, Vampire Survivors, etc…

People do sleep on Apple Arcade. It's really nice to have a consistent drip of good mobile games with zero ads or micro transactions.

Normally I ignore all mobile releases as a rule. But this is good news. Just last night I was endlessly debating what game I want to play next, but you just said the magic words. I'm gonna check this out, thanks for posting about it.
