i'm totally blasting this soundtrack in the Rzone the day this game comes out.
Heh, they still let you do that? We got complaints for playing music. -_-

Anyway, as long as Best Buy gets some copies in, that's completely hot.

Anyone who doesn't buy this will be banned.

I like that policy, everyone must show pictures of their copy on release...or ELSE.

Ok, I've seen it asked before in every thread about this game, but there never seems to be a straight answer to it, so I figure I may as well try my luck...

What's the big deal about this game? I've heard that the soundtrack is good, but otherwise, what's it about? Why has it inspired such unprecedented levels of solidarity among the people here? What makes it so good?

It's a quirky Japanese game with quirky Japanese music and quirky Japanese art. Do you really need to wonder about it's popularity on this forum?

That's not to say it's a bad game or anything though. I bought the import a few months back and don't regret it. I will say, however, that it's a bit overrated. After you get past the charm of the music and characters, the gameplay itself is a pretty one-dimensional.

I'm really curious about what they're going to do to the boxart though. If it comes over with rainbow and cow eating grass intact, I will be beyond thrilled.

How'd you manage that? Nearly 5 months have passed and I continue to find both more and more endearing by the day.

Anyway, needless to say I'll be buying it again for $19.99. Hell, for that price I'm gonna buy 10 and give them out as stocking stuffers.

Well, you do have a point. The intro never fails to make me grin like an idiot.

Awesome! Isn't this the same day that FFXI: Chains of Promathia comes out, though? Eh, its no worry. CoP is $30 and Katamari is $20. You can't ask for more pure gaming goodness for the same price as a normal game. ;)

Anyway, its probably a good thing its a budget title. With the impending flood of games this fall, there's already so much to buy, Katamari would likely get left behind on the shelves. But, for such a low price, people can pick it up without feeling too guilty about it. :)

this game looks interesting. what do you think the chances of this game coming to another platform like xbox to gamecube?

Exactly. That's gonna be the best use of a $50 gaming purchase ever. :)

I finally got to play Katamari Damacy while I was in Japan at Sony's building in Ginza, and it rocked out. So much style, such an amazing soundtrack, and loads of fun to play. Seemed like it had a pretty decent challenge to it, too. I know there was one stage I beat with only about 1 second to spare. I can't wait.

If they leave the boxart more or less intact then that would make this just about the most perfect localization job Namco could have possibly done with this game.

Makes sense from a financial and marketing standpoint. There is a large enough audiance who are interested in the Japanese quirk but not enough to make any sort of money off a full priced product. Drop the game down to $20 and now you've opened yourself up to a much larger audiance who are willing to try out the game based on wackiness alone other than the internet/importing faithful who already know about the title. Hopefully they plan on an actual marketing strategy to get the word out on this title so they can increase their profit and see reason to continue the idea of bringing out strange Japanese games at reduced prices.

Anyways personally, it's like their trying their damndest to sell me something that I'm already convinced on buying. It's both incredibly amusing and wonderful at the same time.

I thought they'd price it at $29.99, but $19.99 is just even sweeter. I doubt they'll do any tv advertising for the game though. ToS didn't even get any air time

Even a singlepage advertisment in any random game mag or a small little flash blip on a website will be enough for me. I just want more people to know of this title and buy it in the hopes that companies will continue this trend.

EDIT: Alex Anderson, someone linked to a website earlier in the thread and I thought it was a really good explanation of the game. Here is the link: http://www.gamedaily.com/playstation2/article/?id=3402&articleid=7048&source=00001

EDIT2: The credit goes to BuddyChrist83, he provided the link. :) I'm glad that I helped you however.
