Ken Block dies in snowmobile accident

Omg, that's horrible! I feel so bad for his wife and kids. I watched his videos with his daughter and the hoonicorn all the time. RIP, you're an icon.

Jesus Fuck. Of all ways for him to die. He was supposed to die in a turbocharged supercar doing a crazy ass stunt. Not like this. He is a legend. Fuck this news.

RIP.

Damn, on the 2nd day of the new year.

RIP Ken

Loved all your videos. Even the new electric audi ones.

But LA best.

Don't fuck around with vehicles in the snow seems to be the message I'm getting from the start of this year.
So sad especially as he started introducing his daughter in the Hoonicorn vs the world videos, seemed like a great kid and a chip off the old...
Hits hard.

Wow, what a shame. Wasnt in to the hoon stuff all that much but followed him when he and TP were running subies in wrc and rally america. Didnt he start up DC Shoes on like a 1500 loan from his father or something?

Showimg them angels how to flick it sideways.

Man, that sucks :( RIP to a legend.

This was the last video before his death:

RIP, really enjoyed the gymkhanas and all the Hoonigan stunts. I wonder what happens to the team now.

ATVs and snowmobiles are some dangerous shit

Yep. Remember when Ozzy almost died when he fell out of his ATV and it landed on top of him? That was on flat land.

I remember him from his incredible videos on YouTube.

Drifting like that wasn't something completely new, but we can say he basically invented a new category of motorsport.

They really aren't, tens of thousands completely unskilled tourists take snowmobile safaris in Finnish Lapland every year. While snowmobiles are powerful devices that must be respected, I have seen complete rookies flip them, crash them in trees, drive them into ditches without harm.

Annually around 10 people in Finland die in snowmobile accidents, most of them sink through ice and drown.

So this is a highly unusual freak accident. Like that explorer guy killed by a stingray

Fucking hell. I follow him on Twitter and last I saw his family was there with him given the time of year.

I pray to any god that they weren't there when it happened.

Well he's lived his life doing dangerous things. Even if a lot of the stunts were heavily staged and not that risky after all it was still a dangerous life, more dangerous than being your typical motorsport driver. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to drift the snowmobile or make some jumps.

He spent his life doing crazy and dangerous stunts with cars and this is how he dies... RIP. Reminds me of the Schumacher accident.

Seems unreal giving what he was capable off, to die like that. Snow is some dangerous shit.

Schumacher would be another example, he is not dead, just probably brain dead.

Snowmobiles are crazy fast. Everything he did had the risk of death…it's like the free climbers it's almost a matter of time before something goes wrong.

RIP.

They really are. He isn't riding it like one of those tourists. Backcountry snow machines they have a lot more variables and danger. They jump them and it's more like a freestyle motorcycle. Not on a grated flat road.

These machines have crazy performance and grip. This is way more dangerous than a car. It's more like a motorcycle.

Going over 35mph and hitting a solid object can kill you.

From the point of amateur, nothing seems more dangerous than a rally. You driving fast in tight spaces, without much forward visibility, without any barriers.

I will stick to low performance planes as my hobby.

But no one does that….people not even competing due all the time on recreational vehicles like motorcycles, quads, snowmobiles etc.

I used to drive my Subaru on gravel and small highways. It wasn't a rally event but it wasn't free of risk that's for sure. But it was safer than anything with an open cockpit.

You can't consider something safe until you put it in the hands of an American and they don't die. Finnish aren't dummies, but that doesn't mean snowmobiles are dummy proof

Sounds like he was going up a steep incline and it flipped backwards and rolled over him, this isn't uncommon but it usually doesn't kill you. Must have just fell the wrong way and had the sled hit him just right. Snowmobiles are pretty popular around here and I know many people that have broken arms and legs hitting tree stumps and other things at high speed.

That fucking sucks, dude is a legend. At least he died doing what he loved.
He's sharing a good drink with mcrae.

Completely forgot about the guy since we get updates of him like once a year.

Nevertheless its a massive shock for me to hear Block has died. I had just watched his content like a few days ago. Blows my mind how much work, time and effort goes into capturing those amazing car stunts from multiple angles. It honestly deserves more views with the crazy amount of work it takes to put it all together.

We lost a legend :(

Rally cars have roofs, roll cages and 5-point harnesses. ATVs and snowmobiles have no rollover protection whatsoever. They are way heavier than they look and can easily kill you if they roll over. And it's stupidly easy to do that when going uphill or downhill. As you can see - even experienced stunt drivers like Block can easily fuck up.

Yeah, his Gymkhana videos were unreal. No disrespect to Travis Pastrana, but his Gymkhana videos just weren't at the same level as Ken's. He was so precise in his drifting, it was unbelievable.

I admired Ken for using the money from his shoe company to chase his dream of racing. Dude started rallying at 35 years of age which as far as I know is a late age to start a pro career, but he said fuck it and did it anyway.
