Kingdom Hearts 2 on 2 discs?

In the recent issue of Dorimaga magazine, there was an interview with Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura. He had quite a bit to say in regards to his current projects, including Kingdom Hearts II and the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. At this time, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII includes Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.

Kingdom Hearts II is already twice as large as the original and likely will ship on two single-layered discs instead of one dual-layer DVD. Many new Disney characters and worlds will appear in this sequel, creating a more grandiose feeling. Also, all of Sora's moves have been re-animated to show that he has matured since the end of the original game.

New characters continue to be added into Before Crisis, a mobile phone game, on an ongoing basis. Recently announced, Crisis Core is said to be a traditional RPG for the PSP and is scheduled out in Japan in 2006.

Even though many people assume that Dirge of Cerberus is going to be an action game, in the vein of Devil May Cry, Nomura quickly pointed out that the genre is still unconfirmed and that many people will be surprised. Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus will share some characters but the stories won't be completely connected. AC will be Cloud's story while DC will be Vincent's story, though both stories will take place in the town of Midgar. Dirge of Cerberus will take place in an area under the ground that was hidden by Meteo and will unveil some of the Turks' hidden plans.

When the ideas for Advent Children originally came about, Nomura only envisioned the creation of the movie and Before Crisis. Yoshinori Kitase has planned more than Nomura ever imagined and the Compilation is heading towards a very surprising conclusion. Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus are all scheduled for 2005 release in Japan while Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis is currently available for purchase.

I see. A traditional RPG...

WTF. Is a dual layer that much more expensive than two single layer'd disks?

Some PS2's have trouble reading dual layer discs, I would imagine that is the reason they are using 2 single layer.

Later in the issue, Nomura revealed one of the brand-new characters that he created for Kingdom Hearts 2. The character's name is "Squincent."

is the FVII compilation for the ps2 or psp?

Hmm.

Advent Children = DVD, UMD (PC, PS2, Xbox, Panasonic Q, PSP)
Before Crisis = Cell Phone (may come to DS)
Crisis Core = PSP
Dirge of Cerberus = PS2

I don't care how many discs games come on I just want better packaging for them. Have your DVD case carry two solid disc holders unlike the Special Edition of Halo 2. Something akin to Shenmue 2 I could live with but I'd like more quality from the cases.

EDIT: It's not a rant, just something I would like. Just a bit more quality to make sure those discs don't pop off the holder and get scratched, that's all.

i like how the 2 cd games are packaged atm, i guess it would be same for pal with ntsc.
Im glad im not gunne be made to buy another system just for final fantasy.

The worst part is that it looked like a legitimate Nomura design for a second.

note: Dual-layer DVD's suck. They cost a ton and don't work proper. PS2 and Xbox both.

I have about 65 Xbox games and have NEVER had a problem with any of them and every single Xbox game is on a DVD9 even if the game doesn't fill the disc.

Yeah, but almost all of those games are under 4GB. The ones that are over that tend to fuck up a whole lot more for me (DDE's, etc). I was talking to a friend at Xbox Japan about it...the Thompson drives spell death for those titles. :(

I have a launch day system with a Thompson drive and never had any problems.
