Kingpin Reloaded - Release Date Announcement

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Kingpin: Reloaded is an enhanced re-release of the classic tale of revenge. Take control of a street gang and order your recruits to attack, defend or even do a little safe-cracking to pick up some needed cash. Use that cash to buy nastier weapons and take down your punk enemies in this intense first-person shooter.

And we are here with a release date.

Kingpin Reloaded releases on December 5th 2023.

I thought this game was lost in the past. Awesome to see it release with an enhanced version.

I just remember the flame thrower being way ahead of its time.

This one looked amazing back in the day, playing it on a TNT2 Ultra. The texture work was in a league of its own until Quake 3 was released half a year later.
(the "swimmy" look to the models is a side effect of the Quake 2 engine.)

This is Hilarious. Are they comparing remaster to remaster?
Huge spinning dollar signs in both sides. This was not in original. What is that.
And why would they add that

This looks kind of awful. They needed to add RTX, actual high res textures and so on. This looks borderline same :/

Looks like shit. Another stinky pile of liquid turds from the new incarnation of 3D Realms directed by Frederik Schreiber, the man behind games like Bombshell (2016). The only "new" 3D Realms games that have been good are ones produced externally like Ion Fury that don't involve 3D Realms creatively. If you really want to experience AIDS in videogame form check out the demo to Phantom Fury.

Never played the original as it's not available where I live. I was actually looking forward to this, but since you all say it looks like crap and nothing like the OG, I guess I'll have to pass.

I'm not sure that "original" footage is how the game actually looked back in the day..

What a weird trailer.

Nice to see so much love for 90s games lately. I hope someday someone also remakes/remasters or whatever Redneck Rampage and Blake Stone.

Yeah, I don't even remember if I really liked Kingpin or Redneck Rampage or if I completed them, but they seemed so much more amusing than your typical FPS. Would play purely for nostalgic reasons.

So do a bunch of other re-releases of older shooters. Why is this a problem all of a sudden?

In most cases they don't even bother upping the texture resolution, and all that's done is that they make those games run on modern systems with controller support.

According to the devs, there are several new improvements.
But personally, I find it hard to notice any noticeable differences.
Maybe with a 400% zoom, like DF uses to compare stuff.

All textures have been upscaled by hand, lighting (which is not final in that footage) is updated, along with ambient occlusion, updated shadows.

Gameplay has seen updates to weapon and enemy balancing, the notepad and inventory are improved.
The money icons are there as one of the main things we heard from people was that they never knew they could loot corpses for money. The game never tells the player this.

I think its amazing we are getting anything considering the original source code was lost/doesn't exist.

Nightdive didn't use the source code to remake games like Quake and Quake 2.
They actually remade the game in their own engine, Kex.

Loved the dialogue in this game.

Hey man, I'll sell you a crowbar for a dollar. I ain't got a fuckin dollar.
Get the fuck outta my foy-ay
I'll be back motherfucker

Not 100% true, their engine allows them to incorporate gameplay code and rendering code where needed, which was pulled from the source.

This Kingpin game is going to be 100% absolute shit. Did anyone else see frame drops? Might be bad encoding... might not.

Still have this complete with the big box on my shelf. It felt visceral to play back when it came out, though this trailer looks worse than I remember it being - but I haven't played it in a while. If I recall correctly, the feedback from the shotgun and whatnot was nice.

Loved the Original kingpin. Still have it and the box at my parents.

I may check this out if it's cheap enough, and I mean cheap because there is no difference in those graphics!

This is gonna be "wait until it costs next to nothing" unfortunately. And who thought that the huge dollar signs would be a good idea? At least make it possible to disable them in the options.

I always remember the beginning of this when a friend showed it to me on his PC. First guy you see says "don't be looking at my bitch motherfucker!"

Can barely tell the difference between the original and the enhanced in this vid.

It was a cool game back in the day. It looked awesome. Tons of cussing. And you can by the setting it's total dirtbags mouthing off in slummy buildings.

The game itself was shallow and nothing special. Pretty linear too. I dont think my bros and I beat the game because we got tired of it. I remember some basic backtracking and going through vents but it isn't an open confusing game.

The game was pretty hard though and getting into face to face gun fights you'll get your ass shot up fast. So you got to move and strafe a lot.

I remember my mom was about to buy this game for me and the clerk at Software Etc. told her its not for kids. Told her whats in the game and I ended up with a shitty Gabriel Knight game....

People don't seem to be happy with the state of the game.
They claim it's unfinished and full of bugs, also no multiplayer.

Yea received the email today to say that it was out and was disappointed to hear that it's not very good. Why even bother if you're just going to half arse it?

I was flicking through this stream, it looks bad, real bad! That HUD is awful to my eyes. Oh and the lighting is retina bleeding.
