The expected list, it's strange that they didn't put it first, considering how they defended it. Did they really adjust to public opinion and deliberately put Astrobot first?
Mouthwashing?
In fact, a very interesting game from a small studio, to say anything else would be a spoiler

Thought that will be something akin Dustborn. Veilguard being second isn't that shocking. Well, not that shocking keeping in mind what kind of outlet this is.

Trash list, Rebirth is the only truly good one there.

Surprised Dustborn, Concord, and Suicide Squad: Fuck the Justice League aren't there on their shitty list.

Unfortunately this kinda shows that woke games are worse than the press tells you they are, and unwoke games are better.

How Wukong, a game from China about a monkey fighting rhinoceroses and rocks could end up getting on the wrong side of the woke crowd, I'll never know.

Also, Outlaws? Really!?

only this forum could be shocked
Lotta strong opinions on Veilguard from people who definitely didn't play it.

#2 is definitely higher than I would have expected but a lot of this lost feels like a personal list rather than one votes on by a bunch of people. Animal Well is much higher than you would expect as well.

Stellar Blade says hello and merry christmass (not my pic lol)
So clearly something wrong here, I feel a disturbance in the magnetic field...Is that really you? Where are the screenshots from Forspoken? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Somehow, they just keep surviving. Every time they, and the Gawker network as a whole, nearly falls apart, some investor pops up and to try and keep it going. Someone somewhere always seems to think their names/websites/IPs have some sort of value. The best way to kill it off is to stop visiting to drive down their ad revenue. At some point, it will get so low, no investor will bother with it.

Far and away, my game of the year. Can't wait for more Stellar Blade.

2023 was 2023.
Stellar Blade is my 2024 goty :D
Makes no sense responding to stellar blade comments without screenshots so this time my screenshot

If Space Marine II had a butch lesbian protagonist but were otherwise identical, it would win most gaming sites' GotY
Well, considering what Eldar did in the world of Warhammer 40,000 and how it ended up in big bang, which eventually created Slaanesh... Making such a game in this setting is not a big problem, but I'm afraid the censors won't let it through. Well, the game will be about Eldar, which won't be so interesting to the masses. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

animal well is a strong contender. i'm too early in veilguard to ride for it as a goty top-5er but i could tell from the character creation screen that gaf's collective take is the most fragile baby shit imaginable.

Can this joke even work when Astro Bot has predominantly been the press' favorite this year? I feel so alienated when people complain about the agenda of the gaming press regarding GOTY when it's fucking Astro Bot that's sweeping up almost everything.

What?

Space Marine 2 was one of the biggest hits of the year, yet went unmentioned on almost every "best of" list because it was unapologetically masculine. Whereas garbage like SW Outlaws and Veilguard are getting handled with kid gloves. You are delusional if you can't admit that.

I've not played it (yet) but it strikes me as very average game that is overhyped because it's not woke ?
I will get it soon

You can scream "BIAS!" all you want, but if ypur argument is that a game should get a 'best of' recognition based on its popularity, shit, you're no better than the people you're complaining about.
But what I had an issue with is that you either implied that SM2 was an actual GOTY-tier release hampered by its aesthetical -""unapologetically masculine""- choices, or that these outlets have chosen their GOTY based on certain -call it ""woke"", call it ""SJW""- agenda-pushing decisions; none of these are true.

I was half joking in that I don't necessarily think it deserves the GotY award, but it sure as hell deserves to be in the top 15.

I wasn't joking about it would've been in many sites' lists if it had a butch lesbian protagonist though. You know it's true. But hey, it's hilarious seeing you going to bat for Kotaku and defending their integrity and impartiality.

I thought it had some really satisfying and visceral combat and some real adrenaline pumping action scenes. IDK lots of times these kinds of games don't hold my interest but I enjoyed the hell out of SM2 from start to finish.

If anything fits your description it's probably Stellar Blade.

Ok but like, explain all the love for God of War then.

Not really, they were barely nominated for anything. Kotaku is the outlier here.
? I got bored of God of War 2018 in like 45 minutes and never paid attention to the series after that. Not sure what you want me to explain.

I'll never understand the reverence journos have for dragon age, a series where only the first game was any good.
