That makes no sense. If your PC is getting frame drops, then your PC isn't powerful enough to play it.Acid08 said:KOTOR 2 is very poorly optimized. I had crazy frame drops playing it on PC even though my PC is more than powerful enough to play it.
I had everything on the highest settings and it was smooth for a lot of the time, even during the huge battles. It would randomly drop frames though and it happened semi-often. Believe me, my PC is powerful enough to play it.TAJ said:That makes no sense. If your PC is getting frame drops, then your PC isn't powerful enough to play it.
NimbusD said:Shit, I would looooooooove to try this out. I haven't even been able to finish KOTOR 2 or go back to KOTOR because I can't effing figure out how to get the games to run on a Vista machine with a dual core CPU without it crashing every 2 fucking minutes.
ARG.
Is it by setting the affinity of the task?MechaX said:You can actually get around that by setting the game to run with one core by doing something with task manager, which should solve most of the crashing issues. If I can remember how to do it, I'll edit it back into the post.
Haunted said:Eagerly anticipatingTeam Gizka meltdownsgameplay reports. Especially from people who already played the game and can comment on the differences.

Having beat the original 4-5 times already I'm really interested to see the restored content.

DrBo42 said:I'm not really understanding this. How do you restore cut content?
Blizzard said:Still no impressions of how the additional content is, or is everyone waiting until it gets out of beta?

You might be able to fix this with the previously mentioned fix (setting the process affinity to 1 CPU core) or the Vista DLL fix.3rdman said:Also, in case anyone is interested, I'm playing it on a recently built Windows 7 x64 and it crashes quite a bit...If you play it there, save often!
Kagari said:I'm almost to the area with new content on Telos.
HK-47 said:Yeah. KotOR II was never very stable on XP and its worse on Vista. Hopefully the fix community gets it to a Bloodlines state where it runs well.
Gestahl said:Speaking of Bloodlines, I played that recently with the latest unofficial patch, made it maybe half an hour into the game, to the combat tutorial part of the tutorial, and then promptly discovered that my character had no fists. Understandably, I couldn't fight my adversary and continue the tutorial. I cannot imagine what this game was like when it was first released.
Bebpo said:So I've been holding off on playing kotorII for the first time until one of these restore projects was finished enough that the game will be fully satisfying and have a proper conclusion (since I heard the original game does not).
Did anyone finish this? Is the conclusion good now? Should I play or keep waiting until a further build?
lsslave said:Wait until it is finished I would say.
As for the conclusion... well... let me put it this way
They are able to restore a LOT of the content in the game, some of the planets that got cut I doubt will ever be restored because of how they patched it. The game as a whole is a lot better.
The cut endings I don't think we will ever see unless someone at Obsidian "leaks" it for the mod community... (They did try to patch it themselves but weren't allowed to)
HK-47 said:Lucasarts is on my shit list forever for this whole thing. Especially not allowing them to fix stuff like the ending post release, probably cause of the Xbox version and all those people would feel jipped Lucasarts kicked it out the door.
I recently finished playing through kotorII with this restoration package. I had never played through the game before, so I don't have any basis for comparison, but I felt that the ending was pretty awkward and nonsensical. If the ending has been improved by this, it hasn't been improved much.Bebpo said:So I've been holding off on playing kotorII for the first time until one of these restore projects was finished enough that the game will be fully satisfying and have a proper conclusion (since I heard the original game does not).

lsslave said:It is ridiculous. Obsidian was going to patch it which cost Lucasarts NOTHING in the end to release the finished game.
At first I hated Obsidian for making a great but unfinished game until I learned about the debacle and now... well I am still trying to figure out if Alpha Protocol will give me motion sickness but I hope not because Obsidian deserves their fair shot already!
Shrinnan said:Why would Alpha Protocol give you motion sickness? The reason I ask is because FPS games (namely ones in the past, in the N64 era) have given me motion sickness and some modern FPS games have come close to it - and I know Borderlands does in fact give me motion sickness as well.
So, to summarize, why would Alpha Protocol give you motion sickness? Is there something in the game that makes it more likely than other games? I hope not because I really want to play an Obsidian game that's not hampered by a publisher like LucasArts.
Anyway, I hope Obsidian one day is able to come back and release the unfinished stuff on KotOR 2 that they could have patched but LA didn't let them or maybe they'll even get a chance to patch and re-release the game themselves. One of the side effects of TOR's success is my personal hope that it will create enough attention to the KotOR series in general for their to be a rerelease of the KotOR games (namely the second one fixed).

Now, that being said, the game was still excellent overall, and a ton of fun. I don't know if anyone is ever going to be able to fix the ending, so it might be worth playing it as it is.
One final note, I had a couple of problems with bugs (skipping dialogue and flying swoop bikes), which may or may not be fixed in the final release.

HK-47 said:An ending is a massive improvement over no ending, but the real ending will never be restored unless Obsidian goes back to the game, which is unlikely. LA seems to want to forget it exists. I also could be that you missed things. Lots of valuable info is said in passing or subtly hinted at. Plus half the characters telling you the important shit are known liars, which is great. Its one of the few games outside of IPL's games that has the balls to lie and tell half truths.
Going over the list of additions from the mod, I can see where you're coming from. They added a lot of great stuff that really helped develop the characters. But it terms of the narrative, the ending is still pretty flimsy, even considering the fact that they were setting up for a sequel.firehawk12 said:Well, the ending is still fairly open ended because it's the "ESB" of the "Trilogy". A lot of what was added is a lot of party storyline stuff that works out their character arcs and gives more meaning to the party influence system.
It's certainly possible that I missed out on some things, or had difficulty putting other things together. But certain elements of the finale are so incomplete that they don't make any sense.HK-47 said:An ending is a massive improvement over no ending, but the real ending will never be restored unless Obsidian goes back to the game, which is unlikely. Serious Finale Spoilers:Why does everyone split up on the final planet? Where the heck did Bao-Dur go? Didn't the Ebon Hawk fall into a pit? If so, how did we manage to fly away on it? Sure, I have questions about Kreia's motivations, but something like that I might be able to understand if I work at it. The rest? Not so much.
