Action martial arts cinema has just been redefined! After watching Kung Fu Hustle, it’s no surprise why this movie was so big in China. This movie is Stephen Chow‘s finest! It goes from slap-stick comedy to epic, dramatic action that makes my favorite fight scenes in movies such as The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, Mission Impossible 2, and Blade 2 look boring. The fight scenes in Kung Fu Hustle are the best cinematic fight scenes in film to date!!! The special effects in are also amazingly well done, accompanied by really lovable characters that are so original and fresh in design. Cheers to Stephen Chow.

EVERYONE MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!! China is truly going to be the home of the next Hollywood.

Stephen Chow is the man. The massive beatdown scenes totally smoked the Matrix's courtyard scene, that's for sure.

That's surprising. I really liked Shaolin Soccer too, but I think Kung Fu Hustle was way the hell better. What specifically did you like more or what specifically in Kung Fu Hustle did you like less?

I almost vomited here.

Was going to grab Kung Fu Hustle for rental but the trailer kinda peeved me a bit. I don't mind classic Stephen Chow, and Shaolin Soccer was good.. but I dunno. The whole thing being set in a "Western" feel gave me the shits.

If you think that a Stephen Chow movie is impressive in martial arts cinema, you must have missed quite a few old kung fu flicks.

KFH is FAR from a western movie or even a western feel. Being familiar with Stephen Chow movies I knew this movie was going to be good, but not this good! This movie caught me by surprise because of how AMAZING this film is. There aren't many movies like it and it's done really damn well. This movie has a lot more action than Shaolin Soccer and less of the boring parts.

Azih:
I thought KFH was funny in much the same way that Shaolin Soccer was, but KFH's action was so incredible that it put itself on a much higher level than all the other Stephen Chow film.

What made KFH so great was the imagination that went into the film. After the movie, I just could not think of anything else that could be done in the movie to make it better because it had gone so far beyond what I was expecting. Great movie. I loved Shaolin Soccer, but I think KFH has it beat. I've seen SS many times, so I'll have to watch KFH a few more times to finalize my opinion... :)

I thought the characters were more likable in shaolin soccer. Also i thought they should have focused more on the 3 masters in the village.

Stephen CHow was nowhere to be seen in the enire movie all of sudden he turns into superman towards the end. It just seemed a little forced. Chow was trying to hard to make the matrix. That said there are some sequences that completely blow my mind. I loved the beginning, the assasins and the land lady rocked!

kung fu hustle needed more development in all areas, especially the development of chow's character. all the plot pieces are quickly set up then knocked down for a nice action sequence then quickly moves on to the next scene. the flow isn't quite there. in this respect, shaolin soccer and even god of cookery is better. but kfh is still highly enjoyable.

What part of Chow's character did you need to see developed more? I thought he was very well developed. There were no mysteries or unexplained traits for Chow's character.

It doesn't have a "Western" setting. The movie takes place in what appears to be Shanghai circa 1930-1940, and because of the time period, a lot of the characters do wear Western-style suits, but there's plenty of rural Chinese settings and more traditional clothing, too. :p

I really enjoyed this movie A LOT. The story is barely there at times, but it doesn't really matter. It's just fun and easy to watch. The ending fight scene just screamed
"Chinese Matrix," (first thing a friend of mine said when I showed it to him) and I agree that Chow's character just sort of becomes an almost completely different character, but they DO explain it...sort of.

The "Looney Toons" style humor in the film is definitely going to make or break the film for some people, though.

Not enough of the Trademark Stephen chow comedy bits. Not enough Stephen Chow.

Insanely creative fight scenes tho.

Good movie, not a great movie.

I liked Kung Fu Hustle, but it's not the best thing ever. There are memorable characters, the landlord and the landlady comes to mind, and the martial arts is well handled. The action might border on being cartoony but that's what the films it pays homeage toare like, and I really got the sense of hierachy of martial arts, that you're seeing higher and higher levels of kung fu through the movie. I can see Chow going more and more into directorial roles in the future. The CG suits the movie perfectly and every CG shot is used with a purpose.

As a homage to martial art films, it far more enjoyable than Kill Bill IMO. As for future mainstream HK films, I'm definitely looking forward to 'Initial D'. It should just be so much better than western car films like The Fast and The Furious.

i really just didn't care for his character. for the first two thirds of the movie he was a prick. a hapless prick with a gimmick that only show up in occasional scenes. then
through some incoherent transformation, he went from said hapless prick to some heroic warrior.
i just don't follow it.

It's a pretty good movie, but doesn't come close to Stephen Chow's best films. I also had more laughs watching Shaolin Soccer (which people like to compare it against).

I love how HK film nuts call every film that comes down the pipeline BEST FILM EVER!

Hey, when I first started getting into Hong Kong cinema, I was like that too.

Anyway, God of Cookery is still his best film.

I'm far from a HK film nut. I think KFH is a great film regardless of where it has come from. I don't like HK films for the most part.

I like God of Cookery... but I'm still prefer JUUUUUST by a hair Shaolin Soccer... I guess because I can associate more with the sport of soccer than I can with cooking.

And I'm more of a Iron Chef fan, so there you go.

Hey, you ever see Love on Delivery? Cute early film that I barely hear anyone ever talk about?

HOLY CRAP!! I just caught this show and it is AMAZING. It completely beats the shit out of Matrix and all the other Western martial arts wannabe flicks.

I love the entire scene where the 2 assassins wreaked havoc in the town. Goddamn, that was fantastic.

How the fuck can you criticise this movie without even watching it? Trust me when I say that I have seen WAAAAAAAY more kung fu flicks than you and this is THE ultimate kung fu flick.

Plus there's ntoghing wrong with the bad guys wearing suits and bowlers, from what I can tell China really was like that in the 30s with the heavy Western influence.

About the part where where Steven Chow got knocked up high in the sky and then saw that buddah cloud. That was freaking halarious when he used his "buddah palm" and it left a huge indent of his hand on the floor. In many chinese kung-fu films, the fighters would hit thier enemies with their palm the enemies would go flying because ki is released from the palm. Sort of like Neiji from Naruto
