LA CRESCENTA, Calif. (KTLA) -- A 250-300 pound black bear was tranquilized after roaming around a neighborhood in La Crescenta for hours Tuesday morning. say they believe the teenage bear is the same one that's been spotted in the area several times over the past month. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies received a call about a bear sighting around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of Manhattan Avenue.

La Crescenta Station sheriff's deputies and the Glendale Police Department responded. "We did locate about a 500-600 pound bear in this immediate area," sheriff's Sgt. Mark Slater told KTLA. "He's been wandering through the residential area for the last several hours." For a time, the bear was contained in a backyard in the 2300 block of Mayfield Avenue, while authorities waited for Fish & Game to arrive. But the bear then left the yard and wandered out onto Briggs Avenue, just south of Mayfield.

There was a heart-pounding moment when an unsuspecting resident came face-to-face with the animal in a driveway near the corner of Briggs and Mayfield. That man was texting before he looked up and spotted the animal. He quickly turned and ran away. The bear did not display any signs of aggression. He then climbed over a fence into a neighboring yard.

After they arrived on scene, Department of Fish & Game officials shot the bear with three tranquilizer darts. The bear was able to knock two of the darts out before they took full effect, Slater told KTLA. "They want to tranquilize him with one more dart, I believe, and then that will put the bear to sleep," Slater said. "Then we can load the bear up in a pickup truck, and Fish & Game plans to take him deep into the Angeles National Forest and relocate him."

Authorities believe this may be the same bear that broke into a garage last month and pried open a refrigerator to snack on some frozen meatballs. That happened on March 14 at a home in the 3700 block of Beechglen Drive. KTLA cameras discovered the bear's return later that same day, and then again the following morning and night.

A black bear was also spotted in the 3700 block of Cedarbend Drive in Glendale over the weekend.

"The 210 Freeway should prevent him from coming back," Fish & Game Lt. Martin Wall told KTLA. "Normally he just runs back into open space," Martin said. "Today, he ran into a neighborhood. It's a little bit different today."

Are there any grizzlies left in california or did we kill them all off?

Additionally, I'm glad that this thread is dealing with animal type bears.

These bastards get into our garbage all the time. Pretty common here...

My sister took this pic a couple years ago during the winter:

This cub was with another cub and its mother so we had to be careful but most of he time black bears are giant pussies and just run away when they see or hear you.
