Yeah, this is surprising. A little bit of history: in 1997, both Lance Armstrong and Bobby Julich were American cyclists who were starting to make a name in Europe. A French team, Cofidis, signed them both. Then Lance came down with cancer. Cofidis dumped him and left him without medical insurance, calling it a "pre-existing condition." But Julich stayed with the team, and even moved to another French team a couple of years later. So you can imagine the relationship between them isn't very good...

Is Armstrong behind schedule in terms of his usual conditioning, or is he on schedule and just didn't expect the going to be as difficult as it was at this present time?
