Yeah, this is surprising. A little bit of history: in 1997, both Lance Armstrong and Bobby Julich were American cyclists who were starting to make a name in Europe. A French team, Cofidis, signed them both. Then Lance came down with cancer. Cofidis dumped him and left him without medical insurance, calling it a "pre-existing condition." But Julich stayed with the team, and even moved to another French team a couple of years later. So you can imagine the relationship between them isn't very good...
