Laptop HDD Just Died Last Night (Help/New Laptop Recomendations)

I have a Lenovo y50-70

Last night I woke up my Laptop from being in sleep mode when I got home from work. Went downstairs to eat dinner and when I came back up it was sitting at an error screen saying: EPI Network 0 for IPv4. Found out it couldnt boot from the HDD which probably means the drive failed or is dead. I opened up the back and dried disconnecting and reconnecting the HDD and still no luck. Also tried switching the boot to legacy but that would just cause it to endlessly loop booting saying to check the cable, drive failed.

Is there anyway to save the drive? Is there any way to clone the HDD?

This is the second massive failure Ive had with this laptop. And the 4th Windows 10 computer to have failed in the past year with my immediate family. This time its probably my fault, but man, Ive never had or seen this many problems happen so frequently. My Grandmothers brand new Laptop HDD failed about 6 months ago, and just a week or 2 ago, my Grandfather's PC HDD failed. Before that, we've had issues after getting the latest update for Windows 10 causing the computer to try and recover and couldnt be saved until reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch or taking it to a repair shop where they were able to clone the drive and luckily save all the data.

Anyone here have any recommendations for a good Laptop around or under $500? Not looking for a gaming laptop. Just something I can use for work/school with the fastest Wifi card possible and high resolution for videos. Im getting a good external drive so I dont run into this problem again.

If the drive isn't encrypted, pick up a SATA (or whatever type of connector you need) to USB cable for around $10 and pull the drive and see if you can read the contents from another machine. If so, then you can at least get the data off of it without having to pay someone to try and recover the data.

If the drive was encrypted, you might be out of luck.

If you just need a new hard drive, you can pick up a 256gb Solid State for around $100.

That laptops not that old, are you set on a new laptop instead of grabbing an SSD and reviving it?

Would be way faster than on that rust drive.

Its about 5 years old. It actually came with Win 8 originally lol. And this isnt the first problem ive had with it.

Do I need to buy a new copy of Windows 10? Theres no disk drive and the Laptop didnt come with the Win 10 disk. What do I need other than a new drive to get back up and running? The Sticker on the back is so fadded I cant even read if there is a key for Windows lol.

I have a 500gig laptop drive just laying around I could use for now. Just not sure what I need to do other than installing it.

Installed the spare HDD I had and I still have the same issue. Mind you this spare HDD didnt have Windows installed.

Is this good or bad?

Not a good sign if a clean HDD can't be read, but that error message I thought would of been a network issue so I'm not sure HDDs don't work.

I did a quick search and sure enough it's a Lenovo thing. Not sure if you've looked into it. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll04_en/thread-id/79526/page/1

Your error message indicates that it's attempting a network boot.

You need to look in the BIOS to see if the HDD is getting recognized. If so, install Windows on it.

If you already had Win10 installed, just reinstall w/o a key. It'll self-activate.

And, as others have said, just buy a SSD. Will be a MASSIVE upgrade.

Yeah I looked up alot of this last night and tried everything before making this post.

I have had signs of this before and was in the process of transferring to an external but of course wasnt able to get everything before it failed. This is why I figured I needed to just get a new laptop.

Any recommendations would be helpful. Dont want to get another "gaming" laptop. Just need something for work/school with the fastest Wifi possible and great resolution for videos. Would like to get something around the same size as mine too, around 13-15 inch.
