"I'm having a reoccuring problem with my Windows 2000 pro Workstation. About a month ago, out of nowhere, every time i would try to open up anything such as: My Computer, Control Panel, Search for Files, or any folder, an error message would pop up saying "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be restarted blah blah blah...". I could get around this problem by using Internet Explorer to navigate through all the file and such on my computer. "

^That pretty much sums up my problem. This started happening last night and since then I haven't really found any good solutions to the problem through a search.

I've tried running AVG, adaware, and spy sweeper with no luck. Someone did mention that the explorer.exe might be corrupt and I'll have to run a system check, which I'll do in a few minutes.

Anybody else had this problem?

Try running BHODemon (it's free online somewhere) and turning off any malware. Failing that, trying searching online for info on how to manually install/update explorer and see if that works. Failing that, reinstall windows?

I also ha ve a little problem with my laptop, well its actually the HD.

Lately the HD seems to turning on and off. I'm not sure if thats the correct term but what happens is that it makes noices like "chuk chuk" way to often. Also it seems like it turns off and when I do something it turns on and it goes like "shwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee chuk chuk", which freezes the laptop for a second.

Any idea how to fix this?

It sounds like your hard drive is about to kick the bucket.

Copy off any valuable data, then check your HD warranty.

Maybe, maybe not. My aunts computer did the same thing for years and it still works.

My old HDD did that just before it died.

It's known as the click of death. And believe me, it's unavoidable.

Backup your files before it's too late.

Backup that hard disk and get a new one in ASAP. The one you have is a goner (just had to replace mine after it got the clickies last week).

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Yeah, my Windows Explorer keeps crashing on me on my laptop.

Seems to only do it when I play a video.

Grrrr.

Well I found a solution to my problem, just in case anyone wants to know for future reference.

I ran a hijack-this scan in Safe Mode and ended up deleting a ton of needless BHO and hijacked internet access crap from New.net. There was also one process running though that was regschdl.exe or something that was an OSboot which I think might have been the actual problem.

This was a nasty little bugger too apparently. It wouldn't let me update any anti-virus programs.

Anyway, laptop works beautifully now. ^-^
