Laser printer buying help

I'm in the market for a new laser printer. I'm kind of tempted to get a colour laser one but i've never bought a laser one before and i'm just wondering what i should be looking for.

1) If i get a color one, do i have three toners to buy each time? Is there a seperate toner for black or does it combine all other three colors?

2) Do the toners degrade over time if not used?

3) I found this one on special, is it worth it?

4) Looking underneath, it has four toners listed at $72-$76.. does that mean that i'd need to buy all four when i run out?

5) If i go the monochrome route, is this one any good: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN

In GAF I trust.

Yes, you do have to buy the four colors. However, the ink in laser printers lasts so long that unless you run a print shop, this won't be a significant burden.

Second link doesn't work. I have a Samsung SCX-4500 and it is a thing of magnificence, but it is monochrome.

Why would you buy a laser printer when you can just buy an inkjet (unless this is for a business)? I don't know anything about laser jets, just some about plotters and inkjets.

Because consumer inkjets are one of the biggest scams on the planet.

You don't have to buy all four toners when one runs out. I think most laser printers have individual toners/drums for each color.

The colors on lasers aren't as good as inkjets. If you want it for regular printing get a monochrome one. When the drum runs out get another printer, it'll probably be cheaper than buying the drum.

Most laser printers come with "start" toners that last about half the amount of pages as the regular toner. You'll run out of each color at different times so don't worry about dropping $70 x 4 at once.

Laser printers are incredibly economical. I have a Brother HL2040N and it keeps on going and going. I went through 2000 pages before I finally changed the toner, and Brother toner is usually pretty cheap. The new cartridge was only $50. You just can't get that kind of volume and savings from an inkjet.

I don't have experience with color, but I would strongly suggest that you look at the price of the replacement toner and drums and also try and get a printer that can print over the network if you have more than one computer in your house.

How often do you need to print in color? If not very often, get the monochrome printer and bring color jobs to kinkos or staples.
