Basically, there are 25 characters selectable. Then there's a box for either memory card, both holding max 10 custom characters. Then there's Random Select, Random Character Creation (should be fun), and Bonus Characters. The Bonus list contains Arthur, Li Long, Hwang and Amy, as well as loads of characters from the RTS mode (all pretty well designed with some variations that I don't think you can do yourself in character creation).

Not even Soul Calibur can escape the Owls!!

Man, by old school Soul Blade self crys at the sight of seeing everyone return, plus the interactive ending/cinemas are returning!! Quite possible my favorite fighter this generation!

Arthur is the Misturugi for Korean markets...where there is a lot of hate against japanese things such as Samurais for the past history.

BTW, In what thread did the owl thing start ?

I've been playing SC2 a lot on the Xbox lately, and these captures don't look as great. Has anyone seen the game in person and can verify how improved the graphics are?

And yeah, I hope Li Long and Hwang aren't clones of Yunsung and Maxi.

Sholmes, the captures are de-interlaced. The game looks just as good as Tekken 5 in person, technically... and personally I think the artwork (character designs and backgrounds in particular) are far far superior.

Sounds great. I assume you've got a preview build. Are there any riverboat stages? I was pissed that those were absent in SC2.

WEDNESDAYTON

This is turning into the most insane fighting game ever. Owls versus elephants, girls versus giant marble statues, cats and dogs living together. MASS HYSTERIA!!!

Every screenshot makes me want it MORE.

Man, this game couldn't be anymore SOLD. It just gets more awesome every day.

Some of the outfits are a bit of a let down though. Hwang's 2P from Soulcalibur better be hidden in there somewhere.

There are several boat stages. Tira's (at Nightie's old castle) floats around the moat, you've seen it already. Yoshimitsu's is floating in a lava river inside Mount Fuji. Mitsurugi's on a boat (in the E3 version). And Cervantes' is in the middle of a crazy thunderstorm. Along with Cassandra's burning mansion it's the best-looking 3D fighting stage I've ever seen.

Sweet! The lava stage sounds pretty awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on this game. The SC2 demo is so ridiculously awesome, best fighting series imo! x_x

From what I've seen of the game through gameplay videos and screenshots it is way beyond Soul Calibur 2 on a technical standpoint and an artistic standpoint. There are parts in SC2 where distant backgrounds were flat and 2D, and the effects being used in SC3 are so far beyond anything SC2 was doing there is no way to even compare the two games.

How anyone can think there is little difference between SC2 and SC3 is beyond me. Maybe it's because the characters themselves haven't changed much, I don't know, but one can easily see the environments are 3x what SC2 was and probably 1.5x above Tekken 5. The sheer 3D draw distance being produced is staggering for a PS2 game. Then we can see some very high calibur, pun intended, special effects like complex fur shading, which SC2's engine couldn't dream of doing. I'm seeing fantastic image quality, beautiful texture work, really sweet looking lighting and particle effects, and very high polygon counts.

In many areas, technically, this game is looking above DOAU. There are simply too many effects I never saw in DOAU not to dismiss this. Namco has done an incredible job with this game engine and with the PS2. This is a definate "pre-order and camp outside the store at day of release" must buy. And a great way to send this generation off with a bang.

They had my guaranteed preorder at "Hwang's back!"

Bringing back awesome Soul Blade characters like Rock and Li Long is just extra-awesomeness.

True. I remember the first owl post done by GDJustin (and he got it from the forums he runs.)

Hm, didn't know that. I was just looking around in the Wednesdayton thread, someone posted a bunch of the pictures at once, and it looked to me like it was new because people were shitting their pants (including me). :lol

Some of those backgrounds look incredible. Yet again, my preconceptions of what the PS2 can and can't do are shattered.

Finally glad to see more new, non-create-a-character shots floating around.

Am I the only one who couldn't give a hoot about the non-main-game features??

ALSO, I hope each character gets their own stage. I hate shared/ stages

What kind of weapon does Li Long use? he looks awesome.

I thought they were just adding SC1 chracters that werent in SC2, but i guess they are adding characters that were from Soul Blade and Soul Edge or something too ?

I cant wait for this game =/

Nah, chances are, I won't fool around with the create-a-character stuff. It really just depends on how nifty it is; if it doesn't really add anything new to the gameplay experience chances are I won't care that much. I'm thinking it'll be a short-lived novelty, but at the same time I'm sure some players will enjoy it.
