Late to Bishop's party: Man on Fire

just watched this movie yesterday. Man how did i miss it? Guess i kept getting it confused with that other movie Denzel did with Dean Cain that sucked. Anyway, this movie was awesome. I get the feeling a lot of people didn't like the camarawork and direction (more Bource Supremacy style bitching) but i loved it and never found it distracting. Denzel is a badass here, obviously. We need more movies like this these days, where badasses don't need a reason to be badass and kill everyone, like Dirty Harry and Death Wish. I want to see more people kill people. BTW why did Denzel give himself up to the kidnappers at the end? I thought the deal was the guys brother for the little girl (who should have stayed dead. The movie would have been better if she were dead.) This is probably Denzel's best role, yes even better than Training Day or even PHiladelphia. Remember pHiladelphia the movie where TOm Cruise got aids from gay sex with Antonio Banderas.

Denzel has some great action flicks under his belt. A few more lesser known flicks:

Out of Time
Devil in Blue Dress
The Mighty Quinn
Ricochet

Anyways, I found Denzel's character in MOF easy to feel empathy for than his TD character - older, more world-weary, yet with an inner core stronger than adamantium when put to the ultimate test. Scarier too.

All hail Denzel!

This is how a vengence movie should be done.

Remember seeing the punisher and thinking that's it? You've gotta be f'ing kidding me. Then i saw this and thinking kill more!

do I get to be the first one to talk about how awful and unwatchable this movie was?

this movie actually made me sick of Clair De Lune, which I didn't think possible so whomever scored the thing can die, it also made me tire of the gift of sight with it's awful cinematography

and why does Tony Scott hate his audience? I don't need to be smashed in the face to understand, are we unclear on the idea of subtlety?

and the script sucked-terrible dialogue, so fuck that guy too

another shitty remake

BLASPHEMY!!!!

Man on Fire was a remake?

I enjoyed the movie, but fuck the bullshit MTV scene transitions and such. I concur Tony Scott hates his audience, that or he's trying really hard to top Ridley and failing miserably.

The Cos?! LEMME INNADUCE YOU TO THE JELL-O PUDDING POP!

Hmm ... DVD for this lying around my living room, been avoiding it on the basis of 'just another blah Denzel film I've never heard of'

Watched Punisher instead last night, which appears to be ironic. Will check MOF out and get back chall.

But yes, Man on Fire kicked some serious ass. I need to see it again
I've had an argument with my mom, she thinks the movie is a true story, I think otherwise. Who's right?

Man on Fire kicked so much ass... and the bittersweet ending fit IMO, glad they used it instead of the other ending.

Uh - it's based on a novel, which so far as I can tell is a work of fiction, and from what I understand - isn't the end of Creasy's exploits.

How can it not be the end of his exploits if he dies at the end :lol?

The ending sealed the greatness for me. They didn't tack on a happyjoy ending like they do most movies nowadays. The ending was powerful

How was the ending a cop out. Should it have had a BS ending full of rainbows and lollipops. The guy was bleeding the entire movie for fucks sake.

Well Im not saying it had to be a great fucking ending with Denzel going to Candy Land but i just think it could have been diff, +1 if the girl died

Eh, it's still a sort of happy happy joy joy ending with the girl still being alive and everything, you know. I'd rather have seen Denzel blow more shit up. THINK PLAYSTATION, damnit.

How dare you speak of MoF and quote XXX at the same time. BLASPHEMY!

It was more tragic with him going and her living on. If they both died they would've pulled a Gladiator and showed them in the afterlife together. If they didn't, they'd have people commiting suicide in the aisles with depression

I think the movie would've ended better if the girl had stayed DED, but that's just me. She had no business being alive after all those months had passed.

i still don't get why Greasy had to give himself up? AT that point he had all the leverage, so you'd think the Voice's brother for the girl would be a fair trade? Why did he walk over to them and give himself up?

Because the was the deal he was offered(as far as i remember), and since all he wanted was the girl back, he didn't care. Giving himself up would guarantee the future safety of Pita.
