Been playing this for over a month now and probably still haven't found my footing yet but I'm getting there. My only other MOBA experience was with MNC/Super MNC a couple of years ago (which I loved and played to death) and thankfully a lot of that knowledge carries over, but there's still a lot more to learn.
I'm having a lot of trouble generally with knowing when to go for buffs or objectives, or when to push/defend, or counter items instead of always following the example builds on mobafire and stuff. I'm mainly a support or mage player, and having the most success with Nami and Karma, and sometimes playing aas Janna, Lux, Soraka and Kata.
I'll make sure I join the chatroom and if anyone wants to play I'm happy to jump in from invites \o/
if you're low level don't worry all that much and just focus on the basics of last hitting, positioning, champion abilities, basic builds, etc. you should check for guides in lolking rather than mobafire since mobafire is pretty bad or so they say
usually the path to winning the game is finding ways to press your advantages, usually around objectives. so if someone if your team is fed you should move them around an objective to force the other team to fight it and you just win off that people's advantage. you have to think, tho, what that person brings to the team. if you have a fed ziggs you might want to set your team 5v5 in front of a turret, ward both sides and just poke away until they have to back off the turret. if you have a fed sejuani or maokai or rumble or whatever you might want to hard engage the enemy team and look for 5v5 fights. if you have a fed zed you might want to go 4-1 splitpush and have the zed pushing one lane while the rest of the team pressures a second lane, so when it takes 2 or more people to stop zed you can just go and take a turret somewhere else in the map
similarly when you're losing you have to be able to see what your team's strong at and try and find a way to force the enemy team into your gameplan. so like if you're going to pick off people you should buy pinks and red trinkets and try to force them to overextend into fog of war to ward and catch them at that point. if you have tp advantage you might want to push a lane, then quickly force a fight on the other side of the map and tp there so it's 5v4, etc. it becomes twice as important to figure that shit out when you're losing because sometimes you're not even really losing, just not playing the game the way your team's gotta play it. win conditions and all that
and uhh objectives are weird, basically you want to try and get an objective off every fight you win, and even sometimes when you lose. objective doesn't have to be dragon or a turret, can also be buffs or crab or just maybe counterjungling a bit or making enemy team miss a big wave and have some turret damage or even placing down some deep wards or clearing some in the river near dragon/baron or enemy pink wards or whatever.
sometimes you can get objectives without fighting or killing people and that's cool too, if you see a big wave pushing bot you can maybe group top and get a turret for free. or maybe you just poked the enemy team out and they have to give out the dragon they were starting out
try not to tunnel too much on objectives and have a clear picture of what you're doing. we always have trouble with that with my shitty ranked 5s team, sometimes we're like ok just poke and disengage and someone sees a great pick and jumps in and we get engaged and die because we didn't follow the whole "win conditions" crap. or we'll be doing dragon and be unsure if we should peel off and fight or just focus dragon and try to escape (protip: always peel off) and end up losing everything because we hesitate
and uhh about items, that's kinda complicated too. some champions like leblanc demand that your whole team just gets banshees veils, others like ziggs need your jungler/support to get locket of iron solari. zed means adc has to buy qss, mid has to buy zhonyas (possibly top too if it's a mage). when to buy it depends on the game. if leblanc's running rampant you might want to get the banshees earlier, maybe talk it out with your team if you're on teamspeak or something to all buy it at similar times so that you kill all her options at once. jungler/support/tanks should coordinate who gets locket, who gets frozen heart, that sort of thing too.
i dunno, random rambling, if u have more specific questions that'd be easier to answer
