“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two,” Villeneuve said in a statement. “It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

Would have been a real shame to not get this.

I think they should do Paul's story as movies and leave Leto II for HBO Max.
I want big-budget movies personally. Maybe you can help me out here. Was the entire Harry Potter series greenlit from the beginning or did they wait for box office on the first one? I know all of lotor was made together. If this is "the lord of the rings" of scifi you would think they'd jump on this and get the machine going.

Nothing has been done like LOTR since. The only reasons the Matrix sequels were done that way was because the Wachowski's were worried they'd be ripped off if they waited years between 2 and 3.

Yea but it kind of gets worse as the books go along. I doubt we're going to ever see Sandworm Leto II on the big screen.
Nah, you meant to say it gets better. Although having read all the books multiple times I do not think Heretics and Chapterhouse can be filmed to give them justice.

I honestly didn‘t think this sequel was ever in question but I‘m still glad we got the confirmation. Nice publicity stunt though.

while i follow others' sentiments that part 2 was most likely to occur, i'm in the notion on why part 2 wasn't made at the same time as part 1? was it money?

am I in the minority who feel the first Dune book may be the strongest writing but has the weakest overall plot? Maybe its because so much is based on it in Sci Fi fiction now, and used it as a template, but the sweeping concept of the future war and craziness Paul has to go through to make sure mankind survives is way more interesting to me (But i like the study of a hero who has to basically destroy the world to save it). Like all this Dune part 2 talk is pretty pointless to me if they just end the cliffhanger of
"we won... but now the universe is about to become 65 billion people lighter thanks to the war I'm about to cause...."
without taking us to the next books

I'm really curious how they'll handle Alia in the sequel. The character will be difficult to pull off by a child actress

I want to know how they will deal with the emperor and the guild navigators. I find hard to believe that they didn't film at least some scenes of part 2 back to back with the first movie.

And i rewatched the 1984 film in one of those fan cuts on YT some days ago. Villeneuve really got inspired in some scenes.

Just came out the cinema watching it.

OMFG IT WAS SO EPIC. IT LIKE WAS STAR WARS MEETS GAME OF THRONES.

(But seriously like 5 people walked out. Normies don't like it.)

Both of which came out after Dune.

It's a classic SCI-FI book for a reason. It inspired countless rip-off and other derivative works.
