Let's make the NeoGAF wikipedia article better!

The current Wikipedia article about NeoGAF is pretty bad, is marked for being biased (sounding like an advertisement) and needing more sources. Haven't decent sourceable articles been written about NeoGAF? There was that printed one over a year back but I think that's referenced to as a source for something on there.

Wikipedia's rules for if a web site is notable enough say that either of three rules:
  1. That site has to have been the subject of several independent articles.
  2. The site has won some kind of well-known or respected award.
  3. The site is the forum of a well-known company of other entity that there's an article about (I think that's what rule three says?).
has to be true. I'd say that with some searching and decent sourcing, point one could be argued about NeoGAF. This is discussed in the article's talk page with some disagreement about whether NeoGAF was notable enough at the time.

The problem I can see if the article isn't re-written in part is that prople who have been banned from here might re-write it in their direction. There are a couple of such people discussing re-writing it [in their favour] on the discussion page.

Who else it up for this? I'm feeling like fixing sources for the history part right now.

I'd think that the Gamepro story alone would go a long way toward making it legitimate regarding part 1.

Are there any other such articles out there?

That page made my day

Cultural impact:
In the video game Scribblenauts, if the words "neogaf" or "gaf" are written, the NeoGAF logo will appear in the game. It can be mounted by the player and used similar to a helicopter (except it will not stay aloft in the air). If it is interacted with, the logo will spawn a gamer character.[8]
Wow that's some impact right there :lol

The discussion page is pretty funny too.

'NeoGAF is a free forum dedicated to the discussion of pornography, Lady Gaga and legendary video game developer Dennis Dyack. Although registration is free, users can, if they like, pay $50 directly to Evilore, the NeoGAF admin, and get benefits like access to a large collection of Natalie Portman photos, collected by NeoGAF user fistfulofmetal, and the heralded :lol -smiley'

shanadeus. still trolling from the grave. wtf lol

I never knew there even was a Wikipedia article let alone a Twitter page. So weird.

Many notable people from the video game industry have posted on NeoGAF, including Shanadeus...

LOL!

This... is true?

loving how people are using the edits to vent rage:
Cultural Impact is non-existant.
On May 1st 2011, the League of GAFfers voted Amir0x as the biggest douche in the universe. His expertise in drawing beast genitalia, resulted in severe verbal warnings by his gun totting employers. To this day he continues to draw animal genitalia wherever and whenever possible. Making him, the douchiest admin in the world.
(someone was clearly upset that amir0x banned him lol)
'''NeoGAF''' (formerly named the '''Gaming Age Forums''') is an [[internet forum]] for whiny white middle class American teenagers that discusses meaningless rubbish and
+ NeoGAF's moderators, notably Hitokage, have been criticized for issuing permanent bans against Republicans and conservative posters based solely on differences of political opinion. NeoGAF's moderators, notably Dragona, have also been criticized for issuing permanent bans against Christian posters based solely on differences of religious opinion (Dragona is a muslim). Political affiliation is not discussed in NeoGAF's terms of service. In January 2011, as the story of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords's shooting broke out, NeoGAF (Hitokage) banned two members from the #GA chatroom during a heated political discussion over whether any political group was to blame; the two banned users stated that no political group was to blame

truly amazing

On the discussion page:
I feel that this article should be updated to reflect two controversial issues. First, NeoGAF has a well-documented political slant. I'm referring to a political slant but it's actually much more than a political slant. Hitokage (admin) and certain moderators such as Dragona are actively engaged in banning NeoGAF members who don't agree with their political positions. I'm interested in hearing whether, based on Wikipedia's guidelines, whether anyone doesn't think this should be represented in the article.
This is a big deal. These are permanent bans, not slaps on the wrist. These are people who have committed zero TOS violations but argued in favor either of George W. Bush or Sarah Palin, or took a conservative position on gay marriage or abortion. They're banned for this. The issue is well-known in the NeoGAF community.
The second issue is the subject of mistreatment of members by these 20-somethings who are running NeoGAF. I'm not talking about a lack of customer service. I mean moderators and admins who are actively engaged in settling personal scores by hitting the ban switch on their own members, or worse. There are many NeoGAF users who would say that the staff bans people for their own personal amusement. A website systematically mistreating its members is a big deal and warrants inclusion in the article
Welcome to the carnival of evil!
North Korea got nothing.

There's a ton of Amir0x hate in there. The "notable people" segment (RIP apparently) contained "AmiroX (A notorious drug addict and mother beater)" at one point.

This thread might not have been a good idea, chances are lurkers'll ruin whatever's accomplished anyway somehow.

This is real? Which Sonic game is this?

Sonic Rivals.

PS: Thanks for the Fire Emblem link you PM'd me, I'll read it later :)

I get the drug thing, but 'mother beater'? Wut

I just hope that when I get permabanned I can find something more meaningful to do than make rage posts about this place on other forums.

Shanadeus was added back in... I'll probably sit back and let this resolve itself. Seems to be a three-part edit war.

Well, now we know who to blame for that game sucking!!!

Or at least go out with a bang and have your name go down in GAF history.

Combichristoffersen said:
Are you gonna blame Amirox for that too? :o

Yes I am. I'm blaming all of GAF as a whole. Wait... I'm on this forum too so I guess I should take the blame as well. I didn't even know about this game!

Oh and the Fire Emblem link isn't an article, it's a video.

I am almost certain that's not allowed. We're balancing on the edge as it is in here.

I had a feeling that was the case. It's ok, I just wanted to see it for shits and giggles. No point in giving these guys unwanted attention.

Cow Mengde said:
LOL, really? Are you allowed to give a link? I want to look at it for a laugh.

I.. don't think that would be a particularly good idea. Besides, I only know about the most recent forum (God knows if it's still active). Costanza used to hang out there after he was banned (and that was where he finally admitted to having been a joke character on GAF).
