Fail out bailed
Austin is a hotbed for live music. Only a few other cities in the country are home to as much great live music and even fewer have the diversity and a lack of a "sound" associated with it.

With this in mind, there are some great local acts here that get forgotten.
Bands like White Denim, Octopus Project, Harlem, The Black Angels and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears have found some modest niche success, especially in europe, but there are other equally great acts who deserve some more love.

Possessed by Paul James, who alternates between dark yet sweet melodies and frantic snake healer inspired barn burners.

The Laughing, a pop influenced indie rock band who occasionally dabbles with world beat and electronic rhythms.

The Guords a country band whose one big hit was a cover and is usually attributed to other acts, but still haunts them to this day. they have better stuff. Stop yelling it out at shows frat boys. :D

Ume, an angular and twisty sounding indie band with a sexy female lead singer/lead guitarist whose hands are seemingly independent from her brain.

Soft Healer a chilled out surf influenced band.

White Dress, a PJ Harvey esque two piece band.

There are plenty more but no one is gonna click any of this shit anyway :D
I wish I knew more about local Austin hip-hop beyond Chalie Boy, but I'm sure someone else can assist.

So GAF what are your area's local acts? I'm talking unsung heroes. I don't need to turn GAF onto Spoon, Daniel Johnston or alejandro escovedo. We're looking for nobodies.

Lol, they made it to MTV?

I live in Lancashire and almost everyone I know has never even heard of them.
Thats how it is here with most local acts. Silversun Pickups is maybe the smallest local act most people know... and they aren't that small. I'm always shocked at how I can be a transplant here and still have to explain to people who've lived here forever that their local music is famous. I moved here for it, but people who lived here forever are completely unaware of it.
My wife was in a White Denim music video and only 5 of the 100 requested people showed up, because it rained. People don't give a shit about local music at all... and than they complain about record labels.
