While I enjoyed it, I don't get the hype. It is supposedly one of the greatest
movies ever made and has "the best" screenplay ever written. I don't get it !
Acting was great but the movie just didn't leave me on the edge of my seat like many noir films do. While this may sound blasphemous, I think I enjoyed The Ninth Gate more !! Roman Polanski is still one of my favorites though.

I actually saw this for the first time a few months ago. I enjoyed it but I also didn't see why it is touted so much. Admittedly I was a bit distracted as I was watching it with friends though. Definitely going to give it another watch and see if I appreciate it a bit more.

Great movie. RL coincedence, my grandfather was the head of MWD security after the Korean war until his retirement in the early 70's.

You should definitely rewatch it before making a thread like this. And I mean, there are a lot of good Polanski movies to choose from that you prefer over this one, but The Ninth Gate isn't one of them.

all the old school detective tricks kinda fascinated me too
