Could you get a link to the thread that talked about this.....I did a "Level 5" search and came up empty...

Well, this thread was posted recently and also has comments from Dorimaga. And Akihiro Hino did comment, but it doesn't say that Level 5 is focusing on PS3. According to the comments in the other thread:

We are working on a non-RPG title. Though "True Fantasy Online" has been cancelled. It has inspired us to make something new. This isn't "True Fantasy". More of a spiritual successor.

But, so I guess this is new... or at least a new translation.

I can't see how it can be a spiritual successor if it ain't a rpg game.
(They consider Rogue Galaxy a rpg yes?)

Well, maybe they mean they'll use the same style/story/world as True Fantasy but craft perhaps, like, an action game?

was there ever a shadow of a doubt Level 5 wouldn't continue working on a sony-platform in some kind of capacity? I mean despite being technically a 3rd-party developer, they're practically attatched to Sony the same way Insomniac have been for the longest.

Anyhow I personally don't care what platform Level 5 work on, just that they keep making excellent titles like they have been.

I really can't wait to see what they pull off on the PS3. I just hope it isn't DC3, as I hated DC2. :/

in some states (the good states), you go to the electric chair for that

This news isn't surprising in the least. And if you asked 99% of japanese developers, they'd say the same thing ("we will focus on PS3").

He is hinting at Level 5s next game, which will be for PSP.

Level 5 support on PS3 means I must own one.

Thank you sooo much for sharing that with us Mr.bob. Now I can sleep well at night knowing that you (Mr. Xbot) will be purchasing a PS3 in the future.

You made my day :)

Level 5 is probably my favorite Japanese developer at the moment, so I can say that whatever platform they support will benefit from it.

They've dropped a few places once I found out they only did the engine for DQVIII.

I thought they were still going to make that MMORPG for Xbox? If not, what are the odds of it being ported to the PS3?

I'd say MS owns TFLO anyway.

Thats just really awesome. Not only would that looks awesome as a next-gen version of RG but the character design looks great.

I really wish they'd go back to DC1 style non-cellshading for a game or two though.

Level 5 expanding:

Level-5 is running a more serious, revealing recruitment ad in this month's issue. Maybe the cryptic illustration of a bird in last week's issue didn't do much for the team; they probably got far fewer applicants than they wanted.

Rumors are they're planning an expansion soon -- attempting something of a worldwide operation. Rumors are they want to self-publish. As it stands, with Dragon Quest VIII on their resumes and Rogue Galaxy a qualified hit (as in, it sold about half a million copies, which is good enough to be "qualified" yet not enough to be a "smash"), they're earning the identity they're going to need to really jump out there.

Head guy Akihiro Hino has said that he wants to stress the name of the studio over the name of any one franchise -- that he wants the next Level-5 game to be known as "The Next Level-5 Game," and not just "Rogue Galaxy 2" -- and this is a wholly agreeable sentiment. It would, alas, be more agreeable if they were to first have a bunch of successful franchises. Modern business is harsh on entrepreneurs...

im currently playing Dark Chronicle (PAL name for Dark Cloud 2) and while its good and all, the fact remains that its a dungeon crawler. I love levelling up and getting more powerful, but the game is nowhere as good as other normal rpg's.

and having a horrible story and especially dialogue doesnt help the game much either.

I completly agree with Helznicht... And I'm a fan of dungeons crawlers, usually, but I was really disappointed by Dark Cloud 2.
