Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out pretty soon. But I don't really know much about NDS's cartridge format

I think they are gonna come out soon. You just need to buy rewritable flash memory from matrix, instead of the once writeable one that the DS uses. However i think that Nintendo probably added some heavy protection this time. We still don't know what the "RSA Secured" logo on the DS is for.

Also interesting to see that the DS battery is only 250mAh more than the SP one! And:
If you cut away the two small plastic pieces of a standard GBA SP battery (see pictures), you can use it with your Nintendo DS.

From the email I got from play-asia today, it seemed like they would have enough for most people once the jap unit arrives (us restocks same time).
And for anyone that cares, the asian ds has been delayed till early '05 *crickets*

no I haven't because if I had been I would probably have been accused of PSP trolling...

anyway, I only came in here to check out the guts of the beast. I used to open up all my consoles so I tought I'd feed m curiosity.

So what the hell is up with the thumb strap?

it's just that I can't imagine having that strap dangling off of my thumb... kind of like wearing a PSP with a neck strap... ain't gonna happen...

While playing? I think it is less 'geeky' then holding a stylus. It hooks onthe back of the DS, you do not wear it on your thumb all the time.

There was a time when I couldn't imagine playing a game with Toy Story-quality graphics. PS3/REVOLUTION/XENON BOMB BOMB.

Doesn't using a thumb strap kind of cover up the screen you're trying to look at? But yeah, it would work well in games like Ridge Racer DS.

It's obviously used for games (like Metroid, Ridge Racer, Mario 64) that have the touch screen being used as analog control, while the top screen is the actual game. For games like Mr. Driller and Made in Wario, you would use the stylus for control, which works flawlessly for those types of games.

Looking at the guts mkaes me think the DS is quite hollow inside. Seems they could've slimed it down alot. Especiallly if there was no GBA drive.

DS won't be tough to emulate -- it's just an ARM9... and hell, the touch screen can be emulated with a mouse or whatever. Shoot, why not?

I'm stoked-emulation is how I "rent" portable games now when I want to test if something's worth buying. This way I only lose disk space for a hour instead of $6 (or $15+ on Ebay) forever

And stfu, bleeding hearts-I don't make this a regular habit

Also might get a DS soon since I like how it looks in these big screens

Well I own Mario 64, but I don't have a PC that's set up to play 3D console games. Im just curious to see how it would work.
