So they are releasing it on ps4 and XB1 in 2024? Hmm....
That makes no sense at all. Maybe PS4 but Xbone? Still we are talking consoles that were replaced by next gen systems 4 years prior at that point. That is absurd. The last game was pretty low tech so it is probably nor much of an upgrade.

LETS FUCKING GO!!! And the Sega America YouTube didn't title it Yakuza. So the Yakuza name is dead here now, I assume, and they're going with the translated series name now. That's fine. But man it definitely feels weird for it to suddenly change

I guarantee there will be a part where they go to the same Barber that fucks up Ichiban's hair in the original and this is how Kiryu ends up with this mop top.

So....Yakuza Like a Dragon was essentially a new game and often called Yakuza 7

So, what is this game? Is this a brand new game and actually Yakuza 8? But called Like a Dragon?

Is it tied to that Like a Dragon remake announced?

As someone who recently best Yakuza Like a Dragon, I'm 100% in to see what happens next.

It's hard going back to some of the older games with the UI and battle system. Like a Dragon won me over.

This game is Yakuza 8, which on the west will come to be Like a Dragon 2 and it's gonna be a turn-based RPG.

Like a Dragon Ishin is a totally different game - a remake from the original Ishin - that happens in a different timeline and setting (feudal japan), being action oriented.

It cameos all the characters that appeared throughout all games, but on completely different roles.

The main idea I get is that Yakuza is about to become labeled Like a Dragon in the west.

What is with Kiryu's hair lmao. That is going to take some time to get use to, but I'm happy he's returning as protagonist.
Nagoshi said the end of Kiryu saga didn't mean Kiryu was going to stop appearing, just he would be used in different ways.

Basically Yakuza 7 is called Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the west to rebrand the title as Like a Dragon. From now on, all Yakuza games are Like a Dragon, using the same numbering as Japan (no Dynasty Warriors case). So Like a Dragon 8 is Yakuza 8.

Sofreakingexcited.gif can't wait. Delighted to see Kiryu back with his new incognito look. Very Clark Kent. Love the line "Guess we don't have a choice" the way it implies that he's getting dragged into this. But then any time he's dragged into anything - Pocket Circuit, hostess management, Ono Michio - he gets super into it.

This one is Yakuza 8
"Like a Dragon" is the new name for the franchise in the west.
The other samurai game is a remake of "Yakuza Ishin". It's a self contained spin off that originally released only in Japan.

What could be the reason behind the change? Maybe is hiding himself by working at Star Dust? It could be cool, we could get the traditional hostess mini-game, but instead of being the client, you are the host.

Quite possibly a way for him to (badly) conceal his identity.

I don't think it's permanent. Most likely it will be a early game thing.

Judging by the Gaiden trailer, it seems he became some sort of bodyguard / hitman?

so Yakuza is being rebranded as Like a Dragon in the West? seems like a weird decision since Yakuza was finally starting to catch on, this could confuse more casual fans

Do people know when the critical drinker use that terrible scream sound effect from sam neil even horizon to describe some bullshit??

That was exactly my reactions to kiryu new haircut

Having Kiryu back is a bit disappointing to be honest. I really like him but he had his saga and they made a big deal about ending his story with Yakuza 6.
Wouldn't have minded to have him be a supporting character in the story but having him as the second playable protagonists after just 1 game screams of them starting to run out of ideas.

Still I'll keep an open mind

The devs said there are story reasons behind the change.

Well given how Yakuza 6 ends: Kiryu going into hiding and pretending to be dead to protect his family it makes sense he'd try to be undercover.

How the hell does this timeline work?

Is it after Yakuza 6? If so, wouldn't Kirya - and definitely Ichiban - be like 60 years old?

If I'm not mistaken Kiryu was late 40's in Yakuza 6 and early 50's in Yakuza 7.
So yeah here he should be in his late 50's or early 60's.

That's great IMO. Japanese games need more badass old men and less generic teenage shonen protagonists.

Some details from the live stream:
- Kiryu has a lot of reasons to change his hair so there's plot relevance for it.
- Dual Protagonists, RgG 8 is about Kiryu and Ichiban together and they will have their own party members as well
- Theme of the game is: The man who represents the past (Kiryu) and the man who represents the Future (Ichiban)
- RPG like Y7 since the volume is big and there will be a lot of text

Yeah i love kiryu but they are diminishing the super strong finale of yakuza 6.
