Looking for Cyberpunk Anime Recommendations

I'm looking to get back into watching anime, and I'm really in the mood for cyberpunk/Blade Runner-style anime. My anime scope is very limited, so the best example I could you give would be Ghost of the Shell. That would be the sort of thing I'm interested in.

Your recommended anime should preferably be something that would be easy to find and stream today, not too old or hard to find anymore. More specifically, I should be able to find it on current anime streaming services like Crunchyroll.

Hit me. Thanks in advance!

Psycho-Pass. Great anime with a really nice idea for a story. Only watched the 1st season, though. I read the 2nd season isn't as good. And honestly, I didn't feel a 2nd season was needed after the watching the 1st.

Edit: ^ Yooooo, guy above me is pretty cool.

Cyber City Oedo 808

3 episode OVA from the director of Ninja Scroll.

Watch the remastered dub version with the UK soundtrack on Youtube. It is amazing.

It's probably a bit more basic than what you're looking for, but I've been making my way through Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 and really enjoying it.

It's like Power Rangers taking down rogue machines in a cyberpunk future

AKIRA

Like the father of Cyberpunk anime.

Texhnolyze

Don't know if it's streaming, I don't use those anime specific services anymore, but it's not too hard to come by on DVD and it's on Amazon streaming.

Tehxonolyze is pretty wild. Very moody and surreal at times. Atmospheric as heck. All about augmentation and those who have been "Tehxonolyzed" and those who are not. It has some unpleasant scenes of trying to cope with the loss of limbs and the horrors of brain augmentation. It does actions and character movements well, and some episodes might not have much dialog at all. Not for everyone but I found it to be utterly fascinating and has a mature tone.

Came to post this. Best cyberpunk anime series.

There's also the old AD Police Files OVA from the 90s. Not nearly as good as Cyber City, but I still liked it well enough.

I got the impression you hardly ever dip into anime, so you may not be aware that Ghost in the Shell Arise was made. It's a modern prequel to the original film.

I would only advise Psycho-Pass if you were desperate. It's dumb and mostly an excuse for torture porn. Season 2 is downright unwatchable. The film is ok and doesn't really require much knowledge but it's more futuristic action film than cyberpunk.

Harmony is a recent cyberpunk movie that didn't get a lot of traction but is genuinely decent and dabbles with some interesting concepts. There's also Genocidal Organ, from the same cycle coming out fairly soon. Not on streams afaik.

Other than that:

Dennou Coil (not sure if qualifies but a real good show)
Ergo Proxy
Psycho Pass S1 only (endure the stand alone arcs i guess)
Texhnolyze
Kaiba

Not really sure if any of those outside PP qualifies as what you're looking for but ...

Denou Coil (needs more love), PsychoPass (don't watch S2), Serial Experiments Lain (I hope you like obscure computing history) and Ergo Proxy (it'll make sense eventually) are all solid series.

Oh yeah, and Stand Alone Complex is the best version of Ghost in the Shell.

Rhea Gall Force, MD Geist, Venus Wars, Megazone 23, Roots Search, Hell Target, Grey Digital Target, Andromeda Stories

Among the few I can think off

Are you trolling him by recommending Arise?

That is cruel.

OP, don't watch Arise, go for Gits: Stand Alone Complex.

Surprised to see so many Ergo Proxy recommendations.

I absolutely love the series, but always thought it was more niche and unknown.
