Looks like very much a product of its time, plenty of unknown actors and diversity hires, CGI everything, no distinct common thread in the story (hopefully I'm wrong, though).

I get that the whole Disney adventure into Star wars has been extremely hit or miss, but they own the IP therefore it is not fan fiction anymore. I know that especially sucks when it comes to the three main movies.


But at least the shows haven't been too bad. Especially the Mandalorian.

If I buy the Harry Potter IP rights from JK Rowling and write a book where Potter goes to clean up Detroit, it's not fanfic?

In any case, my expectations are on the same level.

No it wouldn't be because you are the owner of the property and you would dictate the direction of its history.


Definitely does not mean it would be a good direction by any measure, but you own it and it's yours to do with as you wish.

Amazon used to sit on the rights to Conan and were supposed to develop a Conan show. Kinda funny, that property would actually be perfect for the diversity that is mandated these days. It's full of different ethnicities, and also has a setting that's kind of a breath of fresh air from all the medieval europe anno 2022 settings.

But I suppose they figured LotR and Wheel of Time would be better use of their money.

Kind of a shame, but I'm not really sure Conan could be done justice in today's political climate.

This is basically the lost shot for the IP in general. Films will never be made that top or add anything to the Jackson films. Books are not coming. And we will never, ever get a TV show with more funding than this.

Lord of the Rings lives or dies on this. Might as well try to like it and see what happens.
