That Korean girl.. she used to be quite prettier (IMO) - she hasn't aged too well.

Eh, I think she still looks pretty good. It's been, what, like 5 years since Shiri?

She speaks English pretty fluently; I wonder if they'll explore that at all.

Hmm my current thinking that its some kind of snuff film set up, there definitely seems to be other humans involved somehow (the mechanical sounds locke heard) and seeing how he survived meeting them and obviously saw something, they must have some use of the humans on the beach.

But my current thinking has changed every week so far :D, i wonder how long they can drag out the mystery, 'cause once its gone it seems the show will pretty much die.

They'll keep it going for at least a season, I think. But the show's premise, regardless of one mysterious monster, provides so much. They're still city-civilized and unprepared right now. They've only just now run out of food. The transition into a stable community will be interesting for several reasons. We shouldn't expect another Lord of the Flies, because most of these people are supposed to be intelligent, but the virtual state of nature will create a lot of unique ideas.

Besides, I'm sure that the unveiling of the monster will only make for new storylines and questions.

Is there a rebroadcast of this week's episode at any time during the week? I missed it last night due to the baseball games and presidential debates. :(

By the way, there are supposed to be 30+ extras, in addition to the identified characters. Will they always be on the outside, never becoming integral, or does Abrams plan on sliding them in at points? To have a character introduced into the show, even gradually, that was never exposed before, would be weird to me, I think. And yet to have so many people remain in the background, rarely participating, would be just as odd.

That said, it's a problem they probably can't avoid.

I am guessing they will probably play the same role the red shirts in the original star trek did.

I didn't watch Star Trek, but I'll assume that role was... background filler?

No, usually having lines like "Captain, WATCH OU..." *red shirt disintegrates from phaser fire*

They were there to die.

Heh. I was wondering why Abrams didn't just have ~20 survivors. Now I know. Fodder!

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
In one of those interviews with the producers he said that the background characters will move in and out of the spotlight, basically depending on whether or not they have something to provide. *shrugs* Who knows, it could play like a cop-out, or it could be interesting.

And hey, food for thought: What if Locke was never crippled? He had just convinced himself he was, from an earlier trauma or something. We already know he's not quite all there in his head.

I don't think he was crippled. I think he just got so pushed by everybody and had so much stress, that he had a mental breakdown. At least, thats my assumption. He looked like he was about to lose it again when the pig ran him through, but he was able to become resolute and kill some bacon.

Missed the original airing so I pulled down a torrent for it. As always, great show. I myself had the theory that they are in some sort of purgatory and simply resolved that the transmission was one of the passengers on the plane from when they did die (16 years ago).

But who knows.... its certainly an interesting show and despite whatever mystery they will give it, I am certainly enjoying watching it. There are so many very different characters/personalities that I'm very interested in watching their stories unfold.

In an interview one of the producers said that the background characters won't always be background and could at anytime become a major player. He specifically mentioned that they would NOT be red shirts.

I just have my doubts about that and would almost call it a cop out. If one episode actually moves a background character up front and center, I wouldn't bet against him dying by the end of the episode, so they can be all dramatic about it.

Example: Boone, Sawyer, Sayid and a group of randoms go into the jungle in search of something to eat. In an attack of the monster, Sayid and Sawyer die, while Boone and a female random break off into a cave for refuge, and "bond".

Suddenly, two regulars are dead, and a random is fucking a regular, boosting her to regular status.

It has plenty of time to develop. It's more that they'll have people die and replace them with nobodies. They have plenty of options much better than my fictional example.
