Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau

Ever go down a rabbit hole where watching one movie leads to researching another movie and discovering bat-shit crazy stuff?

So I was watching Tropic Thunder today and saw that Steve Coogan's character was based on another director named Richard Stanley and his two-weeks making the 1996 Island of Dr. Moreau bomb. There's stuff about it on Wikipedia, but then it turns out there's a feature-length documentary about the whole thing titled "Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau"

Aside from Richard Stanley and Steve Coogan almost being twins, the documentary is bat-shit crazy.

The guy loved the original HG Wells book and wanted to actually make a faithful adaptation and worked years on the designs and script. He lasted about two weeks on the movie.

Even with him being fired at the beginning of the filming, the documentary talks about the entire making of the bomb and how much Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer fucked with the movie.

The documentary is streaming free on Prime Video.

I actually never saw the 1996 Island of Dr. Moreau, but it's free with ads on Vudu so I kind of want to now.

I think I heard something about this, year back. I just vaguely remember hearing that the production/development was a shitshow for numerous reasons

Movie was weird. For sure
