this movie would've been enjoyable without Rob being such a stupid dickface the whole way through
I cheered at
his getting munched in the end
. The worst camera man in history got his dues. He ruinied the movie!

I watched this last night and posted in the 'moves you have seen recently' thread

i'll just repost here:

Watched Cloverfield on blu-ray last night. Thought it was an effective movie: tense, visceral and very believable visual effects.

The conceit is a little hard to swallow, though - a.) the cameraman would never have run around with that camera that long (not when his life was in danger), b.) the camera battery would never have have lasted that long (i'd say there was at least 6 hours of time that passed) c.) how the fuck did they get the guy's girlfriend down the 57 fucking flights of stairs they had to climb to get to her, and d.) how the fuck was she moving her arm and not dying from extreme pain after being impaled by that bar?

Ummm, Rob was the guy looking for his girlfriend, Hud was the cameraman, and I found Hud to be the most tolerable of the characters (maybe Marlena too).

Seriously, same here. He was the only guy thinking and trying to say anything to lighten things to boot considering Rob was the guy with oh so brilliant idea to run right in the monster ravaged location. Jesus Rob.

I don't think its the best movie I saw this year or will be in my top 5 come December, but damn if it wasn't a really fun flick. I've yet to watch it at home but I think it would suffer if not paired with a good sound system. I think the most important part of the movie was how powerful the sound was. This movie needs good speakers. If people want to over-analyze the movie and find reasons not to like it then go ahead. Those complaining about there not being enough explanation are looking for the wrong things. Tell me the zerg rush in the subway was not intense.

If any of you want a more "realistic" monster movie that is really awesome then you should check out "The Host".
The Host was fucking horrible.

I think the investigation mode just sold me on the Blu-Ray version... well, at least netflixing it.

fucking hud.

i wish they made his death happen a lot earlier. like him, and marlena
just totally explode together or something

My bad. I couldn't remember any of their names. Still, comment stands, for Hud, the worst camera man on earth.

Jeez cloverfield gets some serious hate. It's a fun movie. It's not incredible by any means, but it's a hell of a ride. Besides there will be a sequel.

I didn't see it until it came out on BR. I found it to be quite awesome in every regard except length. Could have watched another hour, and not for 'explanations, reasons, etc...' just more of what was going on.

I agree with all except the bolded. Technically wasn't the camera only on for an hour and a half? The length of the movie? And was simply turned off at certain break points?

Yeah, the movie was only like 1 hour and 20 minutes long.

Better in movie theaters. I liked it. It wasn't anything great, but it I liked it. Sequel is probably coming.

a sequel?! how?

I loved Cloverfield but making a sequel wold be like making a sequel of Blair Wic... oh wait!

But, with Abrams you never know...

from a different perspective. (I think)

Yeah I loved it, I do not understand the hate this movie gets. But whatever, Cloverfield had the best ending. Talk about a cliffhanger! Hopin for sequel!!

Ok the Host was extremely overrated. I dunno if it was horrible, it was so clearly a satire though.

How was that movie in anyway though more "realisitc" then cloverfield? The movie is part comedy it's a complete joke.

seriously why can't people understand that? There are plenty of camera batteries that can last several hours easy as it is, but that's besides the point. The camera was only used for 80 minutes.

Yeah. The bigger technical goof like that was how the opening card said it was found on an SD card (ignoring the fact that this SD card can fit 90 minutes of Blu-ray quality 1080p video on it), and yet he's somehow taping over a previous recording as if it was on a linear medium. And Rob asks him at the party which tape he's recording on.

Anyway, fuck that, and fuck the haters. I loved this movie. Saw it in the cinema and bought the Blu-ray.

go to wikipedia. half of the story wasnt in the movie (lame as hell), it was done through viral marketing and stuff. just read the wikipedia article and youll be less pissed.

What a piece of crap. Can't they make just one horror movie without idiot characters, hackneyed dialogue and lame jokes? At least Blair Witch wasn't just a group of people shouting "OMG what is that?!" for 90 minutes. Cloverfield was standard issue cliche horror with POV, a brand new cliche added on top.

I really liked it. I think I've watched it 4-5 times!

There is so much more beyond the movie. It's the reality and the crudeness as well as the psychological horror it manages that makes it a good movie.

Crowd running, bang! whipping tail, you didn't see it coming but you're in still worried about the monster and the girl so no time to be in shock. Keep running.

I think I'll go rent it again, brb

When I heard nothing from the ARG was even mentioned in the movie (aside from moving to Japan) I decided to wait and see it the Blu-ray would have decent extras. I'm still thinking of watching from the PSN store. Its not like I thought the extra info HAD to be in the movie, but seriously that was the most interesting part to me. The cell phone footage of the Chuia station going down was outstanding. I'm still not sure why they would want people who saw the film but not the ARG stuff to think the monster fall from the sky when it didn't.

Reading the wikipedia page just made it seem like the movie was conceived as a marketing ploy first and film second.

It did tip me off to check out the ending again to see the meteor fall into the ocean but that was a poor choice. The dialogue when heard again, sober, and in daytime was that much lamer. Even skipping though to look at shots of monster were annoying due to the characters, the dialogue and the acting. The characters were the type of people I hope die in horrible accidents just so they accomplish something in life.

But the monster was cool!

The beauty of Blair Witch is that you actually don´t see anything... but the premisse of both movies were diferent so, besides the fact that they are in first person, both are very diferent.

Also I wasn´t bothered with the shouting and yelling because ,hell, everyone in their shoes would have done the same and that´s pretty much the idea of the movie.

The ending was great as well.

they did mention that at one point there was a person filming the characters we were following and that if they did a sequel it would be from their perspective. They probably scrapped that since I read it, though.

The perspective I'd like is someone from across the city, people who actually thought things through, and picked up weapons to fight, stuff like that.

Oh, and got the hell out of dodge when they could.

Just got a chance to watch this movie off the PSN store. I enjoyed it but I don't really think it was great. I should probably check out the extra non-movie stuff that sounds pretty interesting but the fact that the movie was basically an hour long really hurt any sort of lasting impact on me. This movie was waaaaay overhyped.

Also, for anybody who says this is a love story. That's about as stupid as saying Starship Troopers was about the epic fall and redemption of one soldier and his quest to save the human race.
