LTTP : Condemned - Criminal Origins

Well I just finished the game. Great game for the 360...though the graphics are a a step up..didn't really scream Next-gen but still loved it. The story is really complicated when you get deeper into it but I won't spoil it. The game did have me at the edge of my seat a couple of times (surround sound changes everything, so if you don't have one...get one you'll see why). Now back to playing PGR 3...now this is next gen.

Graphics may not have screamed next-gen (though they're still quite good) - but I'll tell you what: the sound certainly did. This may be the best use of surround sound I've ever heard in a game. In fact, I've actually told everyone I know that if their 360 isn't hooked up to a surround system to wait until it is to play this game, because you really ought to have that for your first experience with this game. It's an absolute must.... more so than even an HDTV for this particular game. Absolutely great and adds tremendously to the atmosphere.

The sound was incredible. I had originally played this game in stereo mode because I had gotten lazy to setup my surround system again but did before finishing the game. This made the game come alive on a whole new level and made the $60 worth it.

TV- Samsung 23" HDTV LCD
Surround Reciever - Yamaha 5650
Speakers - Klipsch Quientet III

Best amount of money i could spend

Dude, the game only came out three months ago. I don't think this should be dubbed an LttP thread unless it is a fairly decent amount away from release. Show a little restraint people.

By the way, as good as this game looked, the non-interactive enviroments and shitty physics really took me out of the experience. There are much more technologically advanced games on current systems. Take away awe from next generation graphics and you're left with an average horror title. Granted, I only played about five hours, maybe more, but if a game can't hook me in that amount of time I don't think it's worth continuing.

I disagree about the graphics. The lighting and backgrounds are jaw-dropping. Especially the school. There are even papers blowing around.

i found the game itself had incredible graphics but the cutscenes looked way off :/

i am still scared to play the game :<

I bought the game and finished it. I really enjoyed the game but i gotta ask ....did you guys just give up with the ending? i mean really the ending was sort of a let down compared to the rest of the game.

It is a matter of preference Oxy (you can fix it in Condemned 2 ;)), but between the "every light or most lights make objects cast a shadow but not the flashlight" approach and the "the flashlight is one of the few lights that make objects cast shadows" approach (think Silent Hill 3) I happen to like a bit more the latter... the fps view does make me feel in control and in the scene, but the illusion sorts of fall down a bit when I do notice that the light from the flashlight is just mapping to objects like a texture map.

One of the things I am looking forward the most in next-generation games is advanced and fully dynamic lighting and shadowing systems so I tend to be over-picky on this issue :(.

I also understad that you could not re-write how the F.E.A.R. engine's shadowing system works for one launch game, but as I said I am waiting for a great Condemned 2 :).

lighting is going to be really important. it will be interesting to see how developers cut corners to keep the game looking next-gen.

story? ummmm...

Oh yeah, good story-telling in games is a good thing to have too :P.

Not commenting on the game yet though: I have not finished it... heck far from it :(.

Graphics were nice overall but technically speaking the game was underwhelming; with very simple, low poly backgrounds and characters, sometimes average textures, and the infamous no shadows from flashlight ! i don't know, but after playing riddick and chaos theory on xbox1 i expect MUCH better things from x360; condemned looked like a good, hi res xbox1 game.

After playing severance, i thought shadows being casted by every object would be standard in a couple years, but very few games do this.
Oh well, i hope they don't cut this feature from alan wake : |

Back on condemned, i don't think i am the only one who didn't get the ending at all, right ?
