LTTP: Red Dead Redemption 2

i would l9wer my expectations. Thos rockstar is not the rockstar that madd rdr 2. Dan is gone. sam is only after the money.
Rockstar went to shit right after Manhunt when they moved from original Rockstar IP (GTA, Manhunt) to outside IP (LA Noir, Bully, RDR, Ping Pong, etc.).
There's an incredibly obvious tone shift from AO-rated games (San Andreas) to Teen rated games with no killing (Bully) and slow story intensive games (LA Noir, RDR, RDR2).
Rockstar in its prime made original games that no other studio would ever make.

RDR2 is the best game Rockstar has ever made imo. Arthur Morgan is the best character they've made.

It's an absolute masterpiece of a game. I'm playing through it again for the 4th time now and it just gets better and better each playthrough.

Take your time with it. Do as much side content as you can when you can, and hunt as much as you can.

I started this again recently. World and western vibe is totaly amazing. But you either walk to slow or run to fast. Every moment interacting with the game is a chore.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably gamings greatest achievement in my opinion.

The world, the characters, incredible game.
If gamings greatest achievement was to mimic cinema then yes this game is unrivalled.

Problem is if you were to aggregate the best Westerns in cinema and television, I highly doubt Red Dead Redemption 2 would even be in the top 5.

My biggest takeaway from this game is that the cost of a room in a luxury hotel in Saint Denis is the same as some dirty shitty backwater inn's room .

Immersive = ruined

I compare red dead to GTA, or Assassins Creed, quests, I also point to the great lengths to attract story driven gamers and the cutscenes with Arther work. All the modern features are there like weapon wheel, sprint etc. great to see the "Wild West".

RDR2 is a great game, but is bloated with a lot of unfun crap. If I do another playthrough I will get mods to hopefully fix some of the stuff I don't like.

'Weapon Wheel' is Rockstar solving a non-existent problem by forcing us to break immersion every time we do anything.
Between the weapon wheel and the map exiting the gameplay constantly is a requirement.
GTA San Andreas (PS2) has a superior weapon wheel that takes up less screen real estate (one icon on screen) and doesn't ever break immersion by taking us out of the gameplay.

I've been trying to get into it since it first came out on PS4 and always struggle. On PC (I played the other day actually) from a save and did a mission. The mission? Taking a wee boy fishing from the camp. That is the futherest I have ever gotten. It is so rough for me to get sucked into it and I hate that because I know I am missing out, but I can only force myself so much.

People always say treat this game like a cowboy sim to enjoy it more but the front cover literally has Arthur pointing a gun at your face and it is classified as an action-adventure.

Yeah, I've been weirdly seeing that narrative more and more recently and I'm not sure that should be the case. We've all played countless games that grab our attention and make us invested in the world through the effort and quality of the game, so the notion of having to become a roleplayer of sorts first, seems bizarre to me. It's the games job to pull me in and get my attention, and sadly for me, it doesn't.

Not gonna try to damper anyone's fun with it of course, but it kinda sucks because its probably the only Rockstar game that didn't connect with me as I've enjoyed their style of game for the most part (controls be damned).
