Besides the obvious six flags around the country, Busch gardens in tampa is littered with roller coasters. It's kind only meant for people like you OP.

Yeah, you absolutely need to go to Cedar Point. So many amazing coasters there.

Don't ride the Corkscrew. It is a trap.

I was at Six Flags (Great Adventure) last weekend and got to ride on my first ever large roller coaster. It was amazing and now I am kicking myself for not having gone to Cedar Point (I live 2 hours away). I will have to correct that soon.

Nitro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhsdET4zedY) was the scariest but Kingda Ka (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN8nv4tVFuA) and Superman were the most fun.

What parks would you guys consider a must visit?

You missed out on the Hypersonic XLC and the Rebel Yell from Kings Dominion. Rebel Yell is still there, but it doesn't go backwards anymore. Hypersonic is gone.

Volcano, The Blast Coaster is still there though. Worth checking out.

I'm not a huge fan of steel coasters (give me wooden any day) but Anaconda is pretty fun. Its got the spirit of a wood coaster with tricks that only a steel coaster can pull off.

And that's my opinion on King's Dominion

The Hulk at Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure is probably the best coaster I've ever been on. I am from midwest and Worlds of Fun has two very good coasters. The Mamba and the Prowler which is an intense new wooden roller coaster.

While I was in Barcelona, I had good fun at Portaventura. Would recommend it if you are there. The places in the UK (thorpe park etc) are usually ruined by excessive queuing for short rides, like stealth.

Speaking of roller coasters, has anyone ever been on this bad boy? I think its in Vegas, and I REALLY want to have a go.

The new wooden coaster Outlaw Run looks insane. Nice to see that type of coaster continue to evolve. Get yourself to Cedar Point. I'd absolutely love to go, but it ain't easy or cost effective from the UK. Maybe one day.

I haven't queued longer than an hour at a UK park aside from for a brand new coaster. You just gotta pick the right time to go (not school holidays and avoid weekends if possible). Last time I went to Alton Towers the longest queue was 20 minutes. It was glorious.

What's wrong with the Corkscrew? (I am a slightly worried about riding coasters built before I was born).

I actually went on Kingda Ka thrice in a row, hoping that it would go backwards at least once. Didn't happen. :(

I haven't been to Kings Dominion in years and I live like an hour away. I didn't know they got rid of the backwards Rebel Yell coaster.

My favorite park is Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. I've been there pretty much every year. Apollo's Chariot is so damn cool. I'm also looking forward to the new roller coaster that opened up. Griffon is also very fun.

I went to Busch Gardens, Tampa back in 2001 or so. I really need to make another trip. There were only 4 coasters there back then and because of my height, I could only ride 2 of them.

The Hulk at Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure is probably the best coaster I've ever been on.

It's a shame the second half putters out a bit but the first 30 seconds are balls-out insane. Dragons at IoA are really good also. Sucks they don't duel anymore.

Wish I was closer to the Northeast. I'd love to visit Cedar Point and Great Adventure.

I generally do Florida once or twice a year. There's some incredible coasters down there. Kraken and Manta at SeaWorld, Mummy at USF (fucking love this one), and Busch Gardens in general puts on a coaster clinic. Rock n Roller Coaster at WDW is a bit short but so much fun.

+1 Cedar Point. The only roller coasters I'd avoid is the Mean Streak, and that mine one (if it still exists). Also, if you go on the Mantis, make sure you're sitting comfortably on the bike seat before it seats (or else its a ball crusher with all the positive g forces).

Raptor and Millenium Force all day. Wicked Twister is a ton of fun, despite how simple it looks.

That's not a roller coaster.

Its a trap in that it sucks...also shame on you for not going to cedar point earlier....literally the best rollercoaster them park in america

I realise that now! Friends called and said that they were going to Great Adventure and that I should visit. I only went because I hadn't met them in a while. Didn't really expect to love the park as much as I did.

Busch Gardens
Universal Studios(Islands of Adventure)

and every Sixflags.

I don't know about this one. Besides Hulk and Dueling Dragons (It's called something else in Harry Potterland though), IOA has nothing to offer coaster wise, which is huge for me since they make me sick.

Busch Gardens VA is great. There are 4 good coasters there; unfortunately they took down the Big Bad Wolf after 25 years of service.

If you go there on a weekday there will be next to no lines, even in the summer. At least that's the way it was for me the 3 times my wife and I went.

While at Great Adventure, you really should have went on El Toro. That is probably one of the best wooden coasters in the country!

Kingda Ka is great! Nitro is Awesome!!

Busch Gardens in Tampa has some amazing coasters, as well as the one in Virginia!

Cedar Point is a great coaster park with some real nice ones to experience...

Six Flags Magic Mountain, outside Los Angeles, has some nice coasters, but I hate the riff raff that is always at that park.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is the only park that can rival Cedar Point. It's a must-hit.

they've cleaned it up quite a bit in the last couple years. not nearly as seedy as it used to be

Those are two that are pretty unique though.

anyway Florida is a must imo.
IOA - Hulk, Dueling Dragons
US - Mummy
Disney MGM/Hollywood - Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
Busch Gardens - every coaster

even SeaWorld has a good coaster.

Speaking of coasters I can't wait to ride Batman the ride backwards at Sixflags this summer.

I would also like to add that I found it amazing that Space mountain was an actual roller coaster. It's not super intense, but it is unique and hella fun!

Seaworld has Manta and Kraken, as well as Journey to Atlantis.

I remember the first roller coaster I ever went on: Serial Thriller (Six Flags/Geauga Lake). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiAyRm1AVCA

I was basically peer-pressured into doing it. I was the only one in our group too afraid to ride roller coasters. And my friends kept teasing me about it. They weren't being mean, but still....

So I literally told myself, "Fuck it. You're not going to die. Get on you little shit!" In line, the entire way up to the ride, I was going (in my head), "Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God." lol

Got on, and afterwards, I rode it 2 more times that day. I had no idea what I was missing out on. Roller coasters are FUN!

(but I do distinctly remember how I felt when going down that first drop. I was SOOOO fucking scared. lol I wish I could have seen my face)

I ride it at least 3 times every time.real fun.

Damn. I want to ride Aerosmith again. But Disney is just not worth it when islands is around there.

Agreed. Disney is a lot of fun but everything is so spaced out. There's only like 2-3 rides at each park that I have to do. Conversely Universal has IoA and USF within walking distance with a high concentration of incredible rides (Forbidden Journey and Spidey are top 2 for me).

Can't stand the lines at Disney either. Not sure what they can do about it but I always cringe when I walk up to Rock n Roller Coaster and see a 60+ minute wait, which is every single time. Universal offers single rider on basically everything (they move faster than Disney's single rider lines too)and the express pass you get from staying on property is like a cheat code for real life.

Everest at Animal Kingdom is fun too, I like the backwards part.

First time I rode it this part made me feel like I was upside down or something. Maybe because I was near the front. Fun coaster.

You already answered your question, and no further suggestions are required. How the hell did you live 2 hours away from Cedar Point and not visit it yet? I grew up in Toledo, I know exactly how much stuff there is to do in that area. You should have run out of crap to do a decade ago, and that includes doubling up on stuff like cow tipping.

Just go to Cedar Point, already. /thread

No, no, no! El Toro is the most fun! But I wish Kingda Ka had not been broken when I visited in May 2009. :(

My friend went on that and she said she really liked it. I tell myself that I was tired by the time we got there (I had been on nine rides already) but I think I chickened out of both El Toro and Rolling Thunder because of them being wood. All I could think of were termites.

Wooden coasters are the best... No ride is the same ride. If its wet out, the trains run a bit faster, the wood is wet and more relaxed. Same with temperatures...

Also, I prefer the last seat in the last car. You get much, much more air time, and because the rest of the train is pulling you, you get a bit of a faster ride.
