LTTP: Tenet

My wife and I went to the theater last night for the first time since we took our daughter to see Frozen 2 last November.

it actually felt good to be back in a theater. Bad thing was that hardly anything is playing. We decided to go finally see Tenet, and wow, great movie.

I thought I had a good idea about the movie, but the trailers actually did a good job at giving you the concept of Tenet, but seeing it in action was awesome.

It’s definitely up there with Nolan’s best work. The only thing that bothered me was the sound; typical Nolan booming bass that often drowns out that crucial dialogue you’re trying to listen to.

I pieced some of the twists together pretty easy, but afterwards, trying to actually grasp how the forward/backward things work, it really makes you think to piece some things together.

Overall, highly recommend!Had some fantastic fight scenes, a crazy car chase, and intriguing plot. I really wish he’d go deeper into this universe with another movie but he’s usually one and done.

LTTP? The movie just released.

And it’s not a good movie because the characters are just used as plot devices to convey another gimmick by Christopher Nolan.

The ending doesn’t make sense because a
whole army
shows up out of nowhere for the climax.

It released over 3 months ago, that’s very LTTP to me. I’m usually an opening night guy so I don’t have to worry about internet spoilers.

The ending makes sense;
they explained that the future had been sending inverted people back. Knowing that this is when the Algorithm gets destroyed, they sent all of their forces to that point.

If you want to use "the future" argument.
This all depends on Sator not knowing that his kill switch is being disabled. If the future knew about it then all they need to do is tell Sator what's happening so that he engages the kill switch before being killed.

The army that they show training in inversion for like 30 min? How did you miss that part? It was like an obvious training montage.

I just want to rewatch with subtitles so I can decide if it was actually a nonsensical plot or not.

But the future didn’t know didn’t since Tenet didn’t commmunicate anything electronically, as The Protagonist says, They’re still there so obviously the future didn’t win.

Movie made perfect sense to me. I thought it was amazing, as most Nolan flicks are.

The time threads can be a bit of a mindfuck, but so many moments were incredibly clever. My wife and I did guess what happened in that Oslo Freeport after the look on Edward(dunno the actor's name)'s face. But trying to wrap our heads around the path there was interesting.

Nolan remains one of the greatest storytellers of our time. I need to go watch re-watch Interstellar and Inception now.

I enjoyed it but it was nothing special IMO. It's a fun gimmick movie that kept me entertained and had some cool scenes. Overall I liked it more than Dunkirk and The Dark Knight Rises but it's still one of his weaker movies.
I would have liked for the main cast to get some more development, the main character in particular is sort of just....there. The ending was also really weak, despite the whole gimmick and what I'm sure was a large budget, that has to be one of the dullest large fight scenes I've seen in a while.

No, characters are great, watch it again. First viewing I was into it for the crazy concept/action/plot, second time the characters sealed the deal.

Are you asking why the powerful Russian arms dealer who works with the future would have an army guarding where he's putting the algorithm together?

He's having the algorithm put together there, why wouldn't he have soldiers there in case TENET comes for it? I can't follow the logic in your questions.

This movie was so bad and easily Nolan’s worst. Absolutely nothing made sense and I was lost from the first scene onward

Another gimmick movie by Nolan. Pure garbage.

Good movie, I really enjoyed it. The only actual plot point I am questioning is Kat and the child and why that is given so much screen time in the film overall. Surprised to learn that Andrei is a Brit, I thought he played his character very well and brought some real foul tasting unease to certain scenes.

I will have to watch again to make sense on some of the more intricate plot points. Visually tho, outstanding. A very good cast and an intriguing story.

I'm a big Christopher Nolan fan. I love The Prestige, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy & Interstellar but really could not for the life of me get in to this for some reason. It wasn't a bad movie, but I think it's one of his weaker ones for sure. I would happily rewatch most of his older movies, I can't say I feel the same way about Tenet. Just didn't hit me the same way. The cast was fine and everything, just not what I was expecting I don't think.

Everything is pathetic compared to Dark Knight but it got people in theaters and I can find 200 reasons Tenet is a good movie.

Tenet was fun, but to me it was just a Nolan take on a James Bond film. I enjoyed it, but Nolan has much better movies.

Kind of how I felt about it too. I think for Nolan it's much harder than most directors, he has set a pretty high bar for himself. I know there is some people that don't like his movies or style, but I've always digged it. Tenet just missed the mark for me a little.

I might give it another chance one day. I remember the first time I watched The Prestige I didn't finish it for whatever reason, when I went back to it I absolutely loved it. Might be my favourite Nolan film. It's hard to choose.

The Prestige is his best film.

I went to the theater with my girlfriend a few weeks ago to see it and neither of us understood what the hell the movie was about. I need to rewatch it with subtitles because the music was too loud and I had a very hard time hearing the characters speak. Not Nolan's best in my opinion.

Yeah, haven't seen it yet, but the sound seems to be the one criticism that consistently comes up in all of the reviews I've watched.

Give it another chance. Film grew on me on subsequent watches.

You can also catch those little details that are all over the film, about things happening two times and you haven't even noticed it first time (or you couldn't know), like

The shockwave the blue team experiences when landing is the explosion that Neil saves Ives and the Protagonist from

btw, can we merge this thread with the OT one (https://www.neogaf.com/threads/“tenet”-2020-new-christopher-nolan-film.1516210/) so we have 1 big thread for the movie?

It sounded my perfect blend of film genres (sci-fi, messing around with time, spy, action) and finally got to see it the other day. Had a headache at the end of the first viewing due to the sound, straining to hear dialogue and generally struggling to follow all the time inversion stuff. Watched it a second time yesterday and turned subtitles on and, along with noticing more little things than I did first time around, it kind of slotted together a bit more. But even after reading some explainers online to fill in the gaps in my comprehension of the structure I'm a little befuddled.

Aside from that, I just don't think it was a great movie. The whole end sequence 'big battle' was a confusing mess where everything including the kitchen sink was thrown in and I ended up losing interest or caring about any of it...just get me past the explosions, big music and big armies and get me to the end, yeah?!

Won't be rushing to see it a third time. Oh, and they missed a trick at the end by not having the credits roll backwards.

Was it because you couldn't decipher the dialogue? I was also lost with the inverting, especially in the finale fight. I got a CC device and man, it was a Godsend.

Now that I've seen it I'm convinced people were confused only because they couldn't hear some lines.
The final act is a fucking mess but it's still better than Inception's. The battle didn't even look good. Doctor Strange has better visuals for that reverse gimmick :messenger_hushed:

Watched this the other night and what a let down. So uneven. Technically great, awful mix, amazing to watch but hard to care about.

The Algorithm. May as well just come out and call it The Macguffin. What a ridiculous idea. Looked like a bunch of car parts hot glued together at the end.

Also what the hell was with that Michael Cain scene? Two characters explaining to each other things they both know.

Robert Pattinson for Bond.

Kind of loved it the first time around so went to see it a second time.

Will probably give it a third viewing on BD soon. It's just another one of those Nolan films (even if flawed) that shits all over the rest of the current offering these days.

Out on home video, rented it with my google credits.

Seems pretty underwhelming. It's like Inception meet james bond, but turned out very average sci-fi nolan shenanigans

The final battle confirms nolan sucks at large scale action. 🤷‍♀️

Finally got around to watching this. It's not Nolan's best film, but I enjoyed it and I always appreciate the themes he tackles in his films. Also, I watched WW84 and Tenet back to back and what a stark difference in terms of filmmaking. WW84 is like a movie made by an amateur filmmaker when compared to Tenet. Also, I know Nolan doesn't make sequels to his original IPs, but I think Tenet has a lot of potential for more stories in that world.
