The outer worlds formula is simple, save a space colony from ruin and Obsidian goes deep into space.

There's all sorts of things to do, collect, change dialog etc. and with notable characters like Parvati, and Ellie you find yourself with plenty to do.

Obsidian has to keep making these type of science based, important space travel games, I hope the outer worlds 2 turns out well, game pass brought me to this game so that's a win for Microsoft right this service is talked about endlessly.

What is everyone's thoughts on the outer worlds, I rarely see it discussed.

Loved it, went in a little concerned but it was a lot of fun with good characters and interesting scenarios.

The game I think got a lot of bad press for its launch on last gen as the loading times were terrible. I actually stopped then picked it up when I got my series X. It was so much better with the decreased loading times.

Really liked it. Action-RPGs seem to become more streamlined by the year but in TOW the number of skill checks in dialogues, diplomacy and charisma having value in combat, too, is a rare sight these days. It felt a lot like New Vegas in many aspects although locations were too disjointed and the weaponry lacked AoE options. I'm excited for TOW2, since Bethesda goes more sandbox and crafting instead of cRPG since Fallout 4 and even behemoths like CDPR goes more action-adventure with RPG elements than "true" character role-playing possibilites. TOW was a welcomed sight in this regard.

Not related to TOW, but I'd love to see something even a bit adjacent to Disco Elysium but with an action combat system.

It was a good game, but incredibly forgettable.

Wait.....what game were we talking about again?
Doesn't help that a much better game(although very different) with a very similar name came out around the same time.

I liked it. The gameplay was okay and the setting was interesting, but the dialogue was so bad it made me switch off and start skipping lines mid-game, so I never really understood what was going on.

It was JUST... Good enough to have me interested in Outer Worlds 2 and from the Direct or whatever, they made tons of improvements.

Game felt extremely low budget. It's as if Phil gave Obsidian $10000 to produce some gamepass slop, and that's what they gave us. Remember being surprised by how Indie that game felt, and how plenty of indie titles feel like they were produced with much more resources. And while a big fan of retro futuristic style in the Fallout series, the one used in The Outer Worlds is mega dogshit.

I've been playing the free version on Epic Game Store for over a month. I keep getting distracted by other games. I figure by the time hte 2nd game is released I will have eventually played through all the content.
Before this I played through their other game Avowed in a similar way, distracted by other games.

I have a large comment for Obsidian. "Put some weather in your games".
Your worlds are static and non moving, dead. Pretty to look at but also look like screenshots as you play them.

They got me hyped with the "from the creators of Fallout" but truth is, this game was uninspired and boring with some of the worst quest design I've seen in any RPG.

I tried it out one day and got hooked on it. Enjoyed it more than any other FPS RPG. But yea, couldnt tell you what it was about or what the goal was as i forgot.

A lot of people have such a hate on for Microsoft they are associating this game with gamepass. Obsidian developed this under private division and it was published by Private division.
Obsidian was acquired just before it was released but it is a Private Division game.

Shamelessly rips off fallout so isn't original at all .

The first area which isn't that big is a snapshot for the entire game. You see everything in the first hour.

Slop indeed.

I played a few hours of it years ago. It seemed like a Fallout 4 mod or something. Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas are games I go back to every now and then, but this one never had that draw. It's like the looting and story weren't at the scale I was looking for.

I remember there was a main quest where this annoying woman who wouldn't shut up was forced on me as a follower and then the framerate went crazy like the game was badly optimized or something. I didn't get far.

This is the most "7/10" forgettable game I've ever played. And it felt like it tried soooooo so hard with the kitschy "Fallout lite" retro-futurism, Idiocracy style dialog, and the heavy handed "capitalism and rich people are awful" messaging.

Really surprised to hear the fallout New Vegas comparisons. This game gave me no fallout vibes, it was way too bright, colorful and the tone of the writing was completely different. It was campy in a good way. I also don't remember that the constant party mechanics were present in fallout new Vegas.

I thought the characters were a lot of fun. I did not think it was the greatest game of all time but it was a good time while it lasted and I played all the DLC which I rarely do in games.

I remember playing Outer Worlds at launch. I was a die hard Obsidian fan, and was very excited for this franchise. Ah yes, finally the true visionaries of Fallout are going to make a worthy follow up and not some sanitized Bethesda bullshit. Amazingly it didn't have any game breaking bugs at launch. Nearly a first for an Obsidian title. The world seemed tiny compared to Fallout entries, but I gave it a pass. "This is just their first effort with Microsoft" I coped. I walked away with a positive impression predicated on the first that "this is something to build off. The sequel will surely be at least the scope of Fallout 4". Well kids, after trying desperately to make myself finish Avowed, I'm out. Obsidian is dead. I was ready to call it before playing Avowed, but a few voices on Gaf who I otherwise respect the opinion of urged me to try it. Alas, it was not worth my time and honestly equal to Outer Worlds at best. What did they do with all the extra dev time? Why didn't they grow? How are they approving this art for release?? No seriously, Avowed and Outer Worlds have some of the ugliest assets in all of gaming. Truly an eye sore from end to end. The locomotion is the only good thing about Avowed, other than that it's a collection of video game RPG tropes, stitched together with the same quality and care as an American surgeon's first ever custom penis build. Outer Worlds was the same. Now that I know there is no promise of the future, and the creator looks at Outer Worlds as a complete vision and not the best they can do under circumstances, I can say it's truly terrible. Really it makes the art and writing of Bethesda Fallout seem mature and serious, which is no easy task. The combat consists of "get the rifle and then the game offers no challenge". Rifle can be acquired mere moments after beginning the game.

I got around 2 hours with the enhanced edition that I got from Epic. The game gave me really bad motion sickness and headaches. Fast forward, I got the OLD/NON-REMASTER free again on GOG courtesy Prime and I could mess around this title. The orange glow from the enhanced isn't present, the game runs much smoother and you can get some config. files from Nexus/ModDB and remove all those shitty post processing stuff. The sudden FOV change while sprinting can also be removed through a cheat engine script.

Now that everything worked fine I could play this without any problems, I must say I did like the shooting, guns felt great but the world felt pretty cartoony and mobile like. The loot is quite a bit extreme and game feels a bit unbalanced with regards to skills/perks. The companions are fine, quests are ok - I did like you have choices but for achievement hunters this will be a pain. The time dilution mechanics sucks ass compared to VATS.

Overall solid, fun title. Nothing memorable but no way bad. I have yet to do the DLCs, will go back later this month or next.
