LTTP: Train to Busan

I'm only 10 years late to this party, and honestly I meant to watch it a long time ago when people mentioned it but forgot at some point

Anyways, Train to Busan is a 2016 South Korean zombie movie which gained a lot of attention and word of mouth a decade ago. There isn't that much I should say about it besides it has a fantastic and likeable cast of main characters, a breathless pace which wastes very little time before getting to the zombie apocalypse, and despite the constant fleeing from and getting eaten by hordes of fast moving zombies which are like the 28 Days Later or World War Z zombies there is enough time to fit in character development so you care about the small group of survivors by the end. As the name implies, most of the film occurs aboard a KTX high speed rail train that leaves Seoul at the start of the film, though a few scenes do occur while not on the train. Despite only having a budget of US$8.5 million it manages to fit in a huge number of extras in key scenes and use a bit of CGI where appropriate and doesn't look cheaply made at all, a testament to how much less expensive it is to make movies in East Asia compared to Hollywood

I would say it's probably the best zombie flick I've seen in many years, and possibly one of the best ever films made in the genre. It deserves every award it eventually got. There's also a sequel made in 2020 set in the same universe but occurs 4 years later, named Peninsula. And this year a second sequel is due to be released, named Colony. Both sequels are not directly connected with Train to Busan. I'll need to check out Peninsula ahead of the release of Colony even though people say it's not as good as Train to Busan was

Final Rating: 10/10

I watched the second one and I remember

Had Looney Tunes Korean Melodrama in it.

Probably one of the most overrated movies at the time of its release, honestly glad it's been mostly forgotten.

Never quite hit for me. Hard to commiserate with a thug, money man, and high school rejects when they have zero character development or detailed backstory. Not really in the same league as classics like 28 Days Later.

I liked it. I think they could do lots of things in that universe. Without a train with people just trying to survive in the city or an American version, Train to Boston. I'm a sucker for these kinds of movies. I rewatch I Am Legend every year.

I need to watch this again.

Korean cinema is what inspired me to spend a few years living there. Now I get wildly nostalgic when I watch GOATs like The Host, most everything by Park Chan-Wook, Parasite, and the Gangnam Style music video.

Try checking out Alive. Another S.korean zombie film. Not that amazing, but I think a nice simple watch.
zombie incident, but takes place from a streamer by himself in his apartment and mostly just holed up there

I love Korean cinema and my expectations were sky high based on the praise. I thought it was fine. #TeamWerewolf

Went into it cold years ago. No hype or anything. I saw nothing that deserved the incredibly overhyped response people gave this thing. It was decent, but the only time I felt there was any tension was during the changing trains scenes. In my opinion it was just a scaled down World War Z.

Normally I can't handle Korean movies. They insert their completely weird sense of humour into everything. Even serious dramas or horror flicks. But I felt TtB was mostly spared from it.

I guess it will be less about survival and more a social commentary about social hierarchies with the rich at the top.

Sequel was abysmal, it retained none of the cool things that made the first movie so cool.

I'm very okay with the Korean version of zombies with some serious transformation spasms, running in a group and jumping on people. They featured similar kinds in Kingdom and All of Us Are Dead.

Almost every zombie movie has been some sort of social commentary going back to the George A. Romero originals

In terms of zombie movies in a tall building with social commentary we already had Land of the Dead

I really enjoyed 'All of Us Are Dead.'
Still waiting on season 2 💀

I don't think this show needs a second season, but I'm waiting as well. Watching pretty much everything zombie related that comes from South Korea.
