News is very hard to come by. It's so hard to come by, in fact, that cancellation / next-generation push rumors began circulating, but those in the know still say Lunar 3 is coming out for PlayStation 2.

This game will never be released. Well I hope it will but so far it sounds more like a mythical sea creature than a videogame. Constant "sightings" and news regarding it's existence but no real evidence.

lunar 2 came out TEN YEARS AGO. they have not made a new lunar since then. the SS/PS/GBA ones (which were all remakes!) were licensed out.

It has been a year though - saw an early version that was shopping around for an American publisher - so maybe it got better.

I played a game for PS2 that had a Lunar title screen, yeah. There was no "III" behind the name - just some Japanese, if I remember correctly. So it could have been another gaiden, but that would be silly (not to mention almost insulting to Lunar fans who are expecting a new "real" game)...

3D backgrounds and characters. The demo was just an unfinished town (bright colored buildings, lots of grass) with raised areas you could float down from, and a battle that was around a fountain in a cobblestone city-like area, iirc. One of the characters in your party (for the battle) was large, like a humanoid animal of some sort (cat?).

Sadly, it didn't exactly look all that great (messy textures, low poly counts), but I've got a feeling it was very early.

I'm pretty sure the main character was a girl with a cape or a dress - there's someone else on this board that also played it, but I'm not sure if he can talk. If that person can, please correct any mistakes...it's been a small while since we saw it and it's all sort of a blur.

GameArts has essentially severed any ties to both companies. Even Sega's more likely to get dibs before either I'd say.
