Never seen a baseball game in a cartoon? Whenever a ball is thrown ridiculously fast but the guy connects anyway, the bat gets "dented," the ball usually spins in place like crazy and then the batter hits it like 6 miles.

I believe if you watch a batter hitting a baseball with a wooden bat in slow motion it actually dips in like that at the point of contact.
