What is Lupin the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine?
The Forth Lupin the Third television series and the first new one to be produced in 27 years. This one apparently stars Fujiko as the lead, instead of the usual Lupin and friends. Watch the PV to get a small taste of what the series is going offer!

Okay I'm interested, what is the staff behind this new production?

Story

Many people are falling prey to a suspicious new religion. Lupin III infiltrates this group, hoping to steal the treasure their leader keeps hidden. There he lays eyes on the beautiful, bewitching woman who has the leader enthralled. This is the story of how fashionable female thief Fumiko Mine first met Lupin III, the greatest thief of his generation.

Inspector Zenigata (VA: Kouichi Yamadera)

Will I need to watch any of the previous Lupin the Third productions to enjoy this?

No, the franchise is episodic and as such no experience is necessary with prior entries in the series to enjoy this. Plus the series itself from what we know is likely to have a different tone from the original series and movies!

When does it air?

6 hours from this threads creation, and every Thursday for the next 12-weeks!

Where can I watch it?

If you live in Japan - NTV video on demand and several other japan-only sites (http://lupin40.com/news/index.html#newtv) will be streaming. The NTV On Demand page for Fujiko is here: http://vod.ntv.co.jp/program/fujiko/ (You need to register for a free account, and a Japanese IP or VPN to watch it). If you live in the US - http://www.funimation.com/lupin-the-third-fujiko-mine funanimation are streaming episodes on their site, and will stream new episodes every Friday at 12:30pm EST

Lupin's hijinks often revolved around crazy shit that Fujiko had gotten him mixed up in, so it will be nice to see things unfold from her perspective. It could be interesting to see how she goes from "I can con this person myself" to "oh shit, I need Lupin's help", or the often used "oh no, Lupin showed up while I was conning this person; What do I do?".

Or, my favorite the "I need Lupin to help with this...how close do I have to get to sleeping with him?" scenario

This and the return of Watanabe are the only two animes I only care about this year. Really digging that art style of the new Lupin. Should check out Redline one of these days.

So, is this going to just be a mini series, telling a story over 12 weeks, instead of a weekly wild adventure like past series?

No apparently the series is going be completely episodic. No on-going arc afaik.

You definitely should.:D

I only ever knew of this show because it was recommended a lot for its bondage scenes :p. It's an action/adventure show so I guess that's to be expected.

The first episode is about Lupin infiltrating a new religious cult group to steal their treasure, but it appears Fujiko is also involved in a mission of her own.

The second episode is about how Fujiko loses a bet to a widow, and is then tasked with stealing Daisuke Jigen's gun.

The series is going to be episodic, which week covering a complete original story. 13 episodes in total. Probably going to be filled with action, violence, and nudity.

Holy shit at the talent in this. I haven't been following anime closely for the last few years and i'm not familiar with the old Lupin TV shows, but coincidentally i have watched a bunch of his animated features lately. I also got Samurai Champloo on BD, loved Redline (also joining my collection soon), and really enjoyed Michiko to Hatchin, so all things considered, this should be right up my alley.

Takeshi Koike is a pretty amazing animator, designer, and director. Here's a sample of his complete filmography:

Hopefully being an animation director and character designer for this series means he also gets to direct and storyboard certain episodes. :)

Definitely love his style.

I am insanely excited.
There is no way Okada can screw this up. Like no way.
No she can not.
There are people in the staff who can stop her, besides Hanasaku Iroha wasn't even that bad.

I mean she really had to try to do this.

It is certainly impossible that a bad script will somehow influence the show negatively.
Not with a good director.
I am not even worried, as there is no reason to be.

In fact Okada's gift to turn everything into a melodrama might just be what...

Joking aside.
This will be great.

I have seen some of these before i knew him by name, the man has an awesome style. I remember that Iron Man promo from when it first hit, but completely forgot how great it looked. Did he work on the entire series, or just this promo? I'll have to get hold of it if he did.

I'm sorry to say this, but the actual Iron Man series was a total disappointment. :(

Koike wasn't very much involved, and the majority of the show was outsourced to South Korea. To add insult to injury, all the Iron Man action was done in CG and looked really cheap and awkward. :(

My only exposure to Lupin so far has been Castle of Cagliostro (which I really liked), but I'm still pretty psyched for this, especially with the talent involved.

Ah, that sucks. I suppose the Wolverine series wasn't any good either? IIRC that one didn't look too promising from the trailer.

A bit off topic, is outsourcing to Korea necessarily a bad thing though? Surely they have some good animation studios too (like JM Animation), or are those few and far between? Though i guess if they outsource to save money they wouldn't hire a top notch studio either.

I love Lupin so much... I still remember MTV airing it some years ago. I used to beg my parents to let me watch just that one anime (Never mind I watched Vision of Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop and Golden in that same instance). And that soundtrack... !

Koike's style looks amazing, will check out.

Wolverine wasn't very good either. The only Marvel Anime series I enjoyed was X-men, because they had pretty good animators on it and the action was pretty great. Good designs too.

I don't think outsourcing to Korea is automatically a bad thing (Oh Edo Rocket for example had extensive outsourcing and I loved the series, and it looked great), but I do think that unless you have a strong core staff at the studio to oversee the work and to drive the creative vision, most of the time extensive outsourcing on anime simply means that there isn't a ton of budget, and it's not a huge effort production.

That art looks great in the OP. I wonder if the character designs will look that close to the manga.

You can see all the character designs right there in the OP, that's how it's going to look
until it reaches the 3rd episode

I'm eagerly expectant on that... hope that Mr. Imaishi shows-up as well! His scenes for the video presentation of The Mad Brothers on REDLINE were like a throwback to Lupin the Third iconic moments, proper work of the fan he seems to be. The two have to be in this.

I've only seen the Castle of Cagliostro but I'm totally pumped for this. Hopefully it's worth the 27 year hiatus.

You guys need to fix this. There are around 30 different Lupin films at this point, most of which are good to great. Also, Castle of Cagliostro was pretty out of character for all the characters so it isn't really a great indicator for the franchise (though most people see that movie over any of the others since it is Miyazaki's).

Excited for this show, hope it gets subbed quickly.

Still going to be a bit weird watching this without some of the original voice actors. I know I know, I'm behind the times with the changes, but fuck it. Those voices are ingrained in to my memory.

The work of poor Gorō "Zenigata" Naya on Lupin the Third: GREEN vs RED even made me uneasy, hearing the guy force himself like that was painful.

I haven't watched the newest movie yet, which was the first one to have the two new additions to the cast but I can't imagine it will be all that noticeable (other than Zenigata not sounding like he is dying anymore...which is noticeable in a good way). When they changed Lupin's VA in the 90s it was honestly not that noticeable at all. I didn't even realize until years later when it was talked about on the Internet.

You know, if this ever gets a dub, this would be nice on, I don't know....TOONAMI.

Anyway, I remember the original show, and I thought it was awesome so I'm hoping they do a dub for this one.

Quick Question: Is Lupin supposed to be all 3 characters? Like they are different personas he takes on depending on what he needs at the time?

No, they each are 3 different characters who work together, Fujiko is Lupin's perpetual love interest who exploits him to get what she wants, and the inspector is forever doomed to chase them.

Glad to see it features superior green jacket Lupin.

No duh—this is when he was still young, brash, and played at the country club too often. Can't wait to see more of this production myself.

For those who are wondering: Cagliostro is quintessential Miyazaki Lupin, while Mystery of Mamo and all of the other films show the character's more crass colors and emotions. Some of the TV specials aren't all that good, though. I just want to see a Lupin flick directed by the Wachowskis, anyway.
