not quite the same thing. the korean stuff is mostly mainstream pop, most of the UK based subcontinental (india/shri lanka/paki/bengali) dub/hip hop stuff is quite a bit hardcore.

Piracy Funds Terrorism is better than Arular overall. Alot of the best songs off PFT didn't make it onto Arular, like China Girl, Pop (the one that uses the Dead Prez 'Hip Hop' beat), Lady Killer and Uraqt.

I'm not sure if listening to others will change your mind... 'Galang' was probably my tune of last year. Killer track... maybe give her more of your time.

all i know is she caused a pretty big uproar in shri lanka w/ her politically motivated lyrics (pro tamil tigers, anti sinhalese).

I'm Sri Lankan Tamil and I don't even believe in the Tamil Tigers.
Tamils will say shit about Isreali's taking Palestian land and then turn around and support the Tamil Tigers.
Though I did see Jamie Oliver wear a Tamil Tiger shirt and I was like wtf?

Yeah ragga is prolly a better term.

That Esther chick is not too bad.

he isn't a rapper, he is a roots reggae artist. and his whole album is damn good.

well everyone who wears a che shirt isnt a rebel either. its the same situation here.

personally i was never into the music for their politics, i love Asian Dub Foundation because they rock, never much cared for their socialist ideologies, i respect them for it, but certainly dont agree with everything they say. i'm liberal upto a point.

Yeah but Che is a certified fashion statement. Tamil Tigers are a terrorist organisation - I doubt not many people would be happy with someone wearing an Al Quadea shirt on International TV.

Went to her site doesn't hide the tigers though :lol

this is true, most YG Family stuff is pop oriented, though hearing her guest on 1TYM or Jinusean tracks is alot better than most of her solo album.

though if you delve into the Movement Family (Drunken Tiger, YDG, Dynamic Duo) you'll find stuff that's much less mainstream.

or you can forgo that and hit up korea's most cynical rapper, Jo PD. excellent stuff
