It's a long wait to Winter 2005 but the game is the shizzle and you all will be owned :p

A devastated future highlighted by the near destruction of the human race is what awaits gamers as Majesco (OTC BB: MJSH), a provider of diversified products and content for digital entertainment platforms, today announced Phantom Dust. An action/strategy game developed by Microsoft Games Studios Japan, Phantom Dust will be available this winter for exclusive play on the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft.

"Phantom Dust is one of the great new titles we have scheduled to kick-off our 2005 product lineup," said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco. "Developed by Microsoft Games Studios Japan, Phantom Dust will take full advantage of Xbox Live(TM) by allowing players to obtain and trade more than 300 of the game's "skills" online, while giving them a deep and involved single-player game experience at the same time."

real question is whether it will be a budget title like all other majesco games. i would buy this for 20 bucks in a heartbeat

Winter 2005 = the next couple months, right?

The game is already in english, it can't take them long to localize it...

I think that's technically considered Winter 2004. But I'd prefer it the other way.

I was under the impression that the folks at WD were in the running for this. Vic has been talking up an "Xbox RPG" for a while, and this and SMT:Nines are the only two of any quality i can think of.

PD is FAR from an RPG tho so it has to be something else. What I have no clue.

Phantom Dust for Xbox is scheduled for release this winter.

While at first I thought it probably meant 1 year from now. I dont think I'm so sure anymore:

scheduled to kick-off our 2005 product lineup,"
if its 'kicking-off' it cant mean at the end of the year could it?

Phantom Dust will be available this winter
'This Winter' is now, not in a year.

I'd have to guess its coming out before March/April, no?

Hell yes!! Now I can stop playing my import version via XKaiLink and XBConnect on my modded XBox. And finally I'll get access to the downloadble skills that have been released. This game may not be for everyone but I am hopelessly addicted to it.

The do mean THIS winter right (i.e. the next few months). The game is ALREADY in English?! (Text and movies are in English, you could sell this game tomorrow at EB except for the fact that it's region coded for Japanese XBoxes). All the have to do is work out region coding irregularities for Pete's sake?!

Check out the Phantom Dust forums:

The sooner the better as there's hardly any people online via XBL anymore and thus I cant get get the rare, rare skills. I need peeps to beat on :D

It wasn't this game, but it was fun reading about how we were going for it/had licensed it!

BTW, I, too, am looking forward to the increase in XBL players with this game! I still don't know why MS cut it loose unless they want to de-emphasize the XBox in favor of the '05 XB2...

I dunno... maybe Tenerezza? It's a decent looking ARPG from 2003...

SMT Nine is pretty crap from what I understand, and doesn't Vic have deep moral issues with the franchise anyway? I doubt that's the game at least.

Too bad WD didn't follow through on any potential GameCube localizations. There's actually a few RPGs ripe for the picking there (Giftpia, Home Land, Tengai Makyou II, Generation of Chaos Exceed, etc).

Tenerezza is pretty crappy. No.

Tried to license Tengai Makyo II, but Hudson US is still really screwed up and the licensing went nowhere. Shame that people will be picking up Tengai Makyo in the third installment with no knowledge of the first two when Konami releases TM III next year.

Awesome! I was really addicted to the demo before Halo 2 was released. It would be killer if you could have six or more players at once instead of four.

Majesco is making some pretty good decisions. This won't be a killer sales wise, but they're building up their line-up with quality games and franchises, further improving their Majesco brand image. Plus, they're picking up alot of these games on the cheap!

It definitely sounds like this year (quote from TeamXbox).

“Phantom Dust is one of the great new titles we have scheduled to kick-off our 2005 product lineup,” said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco.

Are you crazy, it's insane enough with 4 people! you don't need more. You'll understand with the retail release when you sample some of the higher level skills and check out some of the 'arsenals' people are packing. I personally am thankful that we're just getting this game. Now if the rumors are true about Metal Wolf Chaos hitting stateside next year are true as well, I'll be one happy niche gamer!

Too bad, though I think SCEA might've given you trouble with the game based on visuals (and a GC only release might've been too risky). Wish Ziria would've gotten a remake too, or at least a port on GBA and not cellphones. It's a shame the GC version of Namida was scrapped too... I expect Konami would've released that one too.

Have any interest in Giftpia or Home Land?

Yeah, Magicbox reported it but it hasn't been sourced or substantiated from what I've seen. It's still coming according to ChunSoft's site.

I agree with open_mouth. I bought one Majesco game this year and am pretty sure about buying three (advent rising, psychonauts, advent shadow) of them next year. Maybe I'll buy also Phantom Dust.

I'm not so sure that moving it up to 6 wouldnt be a bad idea. I've come to loathe FFAs as "bitch decks" (as I like to call decks loaded with D Erase skills) rule the day there and the person who hides and fights the least usually wins. I havent played alot since the 1.10 patch that toned down alot of stuff but before the patch FFAs were starting to suck bigtime.

I got the news from gamefront. They said that it was announced by ChunSoft. But they can be wrong.

XBN had a big Phantom Dust feature all ready to go too. novery even did the interview in tokyo.

but alas...

this game should hit shelves in march.

You weren't the only one:

Phantom Dust
Looking on the horizon, we've learned that while Microsoft is unlikely to pick up Phantom Dust, a small, California-based publisher which has for the last four or five years been a PlayStation backer may very well pick up this game for Xbox. I cannot say which publisher, but let's say it's a very small one that likes to obtain Japanese RPGs, spend an enormous amount of time localizing them, and then packages them with an abundance of goodies.

Either way, good news.

I'm still amazed that no one has brought Chain Dive over. There isn't all that much to translate, and at $20 it would sell like Gangbusters. If Mastiff can do well with Gungrave:OD at $15, there's no reason not to bring over CD, which is objectively a much better game.

Damn, I was planning on asking you if novery's coverage would have a chance for the last XBN. Bah !
Ho well, at least one good news in these 2 days filled with bad ones :/

Any chance of that piece journalism hitting the internet? Is 1up.com still going to be operational. I would love to read what you guys put together. I really liked the contect in XBN, the reviews I didn't agree with, but I didn't get the publication for reviews. It be a damn shame to see that interview go to waste. I must know eveything there is about Phantom Dust andit's creators.

Awww :( TM2 was such a great game... Nice to see you tried though. The Apocalypse IV was one game that definitely should have gotten a US release - the funniest RPG I've ever played!

I'd like to see that happen, too, but there's whole running jokes that really wouldn't work well now (like the "Cool Runnings" guys based on the movie that was out about the time of initial release, but is a distant memory for a select few and a complete blamk for most). Some of the stuff is priceless, though.

The interview went really well, as did the photo shoot. There's still a lot about Phantom Dust that the developers want to share with you all. And I promise, I'll try my best to get the story out for you all.

(One of the most exciting things, for me personally, is the screen shot from the prototype build of Phantom Dust that was originally presented to Microsoft 18 months ago. Director Futatsugi wanted to give that screen shot exclusively to XBN.) In the meantime, check out www.xboxphreaker.com. It's an awesome resource for Phantom Dust.

And RIP XBN. I don't drink, but I'm thinking of drowning myself in sake tonight.

See ya online :D

Hey PhatSaqs, what happened to you? (Well, actually, I know. Halo 2 happened to you.) But we've got to get you back on PD. Turtle Japanese players must pay.

lol yeah. I got Halowned pretty hard for awhile :lol .
I've played a couple of games of PD here within the past week. Seems the number of players has dropped off alot. I should get back into it pretty soon tho. No doubt.

Except that CD sucks...pretty badly.

I picked it up when Play-asia dropped it to $15 and while there are a few good levels here and there (and the main gameplay system is pretty great) most of the levels suck immensely. The game is filled with more text/dialogue/voice acting than some rpgs (making it a bitch to translate) and all of it sucks and will be skipped by every player with a brain so it's kinda wasted effort to translate it. Oh and the final boss fight is crap.
