Making coasters out of DVD-Rs

OK, I'm running into a wall here.

Someone at work has a couple of DVD-ROM's that he received from a technical conference. They contain pdfs, powerpoints, videos, code samples, etc. Nothing copyright sensitive.

I saved them as ISOs to my hard drive on laptop (work).

When I got home, I tried to burn them onto DVD-Rs but they aren't readable by my work laptop. And I've used both dvd decryptor and Alcohol 120%. I've even tried DVD-ROM mode in 120. I haven't checked whether my home computer with the drive can read them, but there were no errors during the burn process.

What the hell am I doing wrong?!!! I've had better luck making DVD movie copies and yet I can't burn these simple data files that are 2 - 3 GBs (so they should easily fit on a DVD5).

Would DVD+R's work better? Should I consider some other software?

Is there a better forum for this? I would google but you guys always seem to know the best sites right away.
