Five people have been injured, two seriously, in an attack by a man armed with a chainsaw in the Swiss town of Schaffhausen, police say.

Central parts of the town on the German border have been sealed off, as police are searching for the attacker.
Police and ambulances are on the scene and rescue helicopters are circling overhead, police spokeswoman Cindy Beer is quoted as saying by Swissinfo.

The police say the attack is not related to terrorism.

Police have released a picture of the alleged suspect, who is still on the run, but have not named him.
They have warned that the man, who is about 190cm (6.2ft) tall, with an unkempt appearance, is dangerous.

Local shops are also shut, and people have been told to avoid the area.

The police say the alarm was raised at 10:39 local time (08:39 GMT), when an armed man was reported to have entered office buildings in Schaffhausen.

At a news conference, police said the attacker was believed to be driving a white VW van, and reassured the public that a large number of officers had been deployed in the area.

Schaffhausen is the capital of the Swiss canton with the same name.
About 36,000 people live in the historic town.

This sounds terrifying, suspect is still on the loose armed and dangerous according to police, public have been asked to stay away from the area.

Stay safe Swiss GAF. Avoid this man.

Edit: added a picture of attacker.0

There are pictures of the attacker on the BBC website. I can't post them myself as I'm at work, but could be helpful for GAF members in the area to know who to look out for.

Why was he doing mugshots in the wood?

Just a thought, but seeing as the attack took place near the German border, I wouldn't be suprised if someone from border patrol, or a park ranger took the photographs. I know I would when I saw someone distraught in the woods and I was in a somewhat official position.

Chainsaw attacks immediately give me Resident Evil 4 images in my head.

Hopefully the injured can make a full recovery and law enforcement can capture the guy.

Might need to stop sniffing glue
This is crazy. Also, this is why I don't do those Chainsaw filled haunted houses every October.

Aparently the dude has been living in the woods for a while.

Also, all the 2 heavily injured victims are no longer in danger of dying.

I read the topic wrong and thought it said "Man with Chainsaw arm injures 5 people" like it's still bad but shit.

Good news, the suspect has been arrested

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-40723179

A man who sparked one of the biggest manhunts in Swiss history after allegedly attacking people with a chainsaw has been arrested, police say.

Franz Wrousis, 50, was arrested in Thalwil, a town about 60km (37 miles) from Schaffhausen, the border town where the incident took place.

Mr Wrousis, who is said to have lived in the nearby woods, allegedly attacked two people in an insurance office.

More than 100 Swiss and German officers were involved in the search.

On Tuesday afternoon, after more than 24 hours on the run, Swiss police admitted they had no idea where Mr Wrousis had gone, and could have potentially crossed into Germany,
A helicopter and dogs were used to scour the area for any trace of the alleged suspect, who has two previous convictions for weapons offences.

Police eventually found him in Thalwil, just south of Zurich. No further details were available surrounding the arrest, but local media reported the police were due to hold a press conference early on Wednesday.

Monday's attack unfolded shortly after 10:30 (08:30 GMT), when two workers were attacked and wounded by a chainsaw at the CSS insurance office. One was badly hurt and needed surgery in hospital.
Two other people were treated for shock, while a third was slightly hurt during the ensuing police operation.
Police said Mr Wrousis had been a customer of the firm.

Glad they caught this guy, before any more violence happened.

Straight out of a horror movie, only this is real life. Unbelievable and I really can't imagine happening this to me or anyone close. Jesus man.
