Freaky... the victim lives, but got a 20cm gash in his head. The attacker is supposedly known for violence and drug-related crimes... way to add to his resumé.

From "Aftenposten Norwegian News In English":

Oslo man attacked with 'samurai sword'

A man in his 30s, out late on a summer night in Oslo, was recovering at a local hospital Tuesday. At around 4:30am, he was attacked by another man wielding what witnesses described as a "samurai sword."

Here's the sword used in the bizarre attack in downtown Oslo early Tuesday.

The bizarre attack occurred near one of downtown Oslo's main squares, called Stortorget.

Witnesses told police that they saw a man suddenly start swinging a large sword in circles. Just as suddenly, he lunged at another man, who collapsed near the square's taxi stand.

It's believed the attack actually took place near the corner of Kongens Gate and Tollbugata, an area known as a gathering place for drug addicts. Police found a trail of blood from the corner to the square, reports newspaper Aftenposten Aften..

The victim was unconscious and bleeding heavily when police arrived at the scene. He was rushed to Akershus University Hospital with head injuries.

Hospital personnel described his condition as serious on Tuesday, but said his life was not in danger.

Police arrested the man who allegedly swung the sword, and seized his unusual weapon, which was found in a nearby garbage can. He faces charges of assault and, possibly, attempted murder.

"We don't know anything yet regarding the background for the attack," police spokesman Sindre Flaate told news bureau NTB. "And we don't know whether they knew each other."

If the Vikings develop elite Samurai infantry to go with their cheap Berserker units and lame naval unit production bonuses from their early longboat tech we are all *screwed*.
